I too had Podium vanishing a couple of times due to plugin misbehavior. I checked the task manager and no process for Podium was listed. I don’t remember which plug was causing this, but it was probably a poorly coded freeware. The problem was resolved by removing the plugin.
I think that yes it is acceptable, and probably a fortuitous move. Personally, I don’t see much benefit in supporting W98, especially if a lot of work is involved in maintaining support for ‘legacy’ OS as well as moving forward with current M$ compiler.

This release should again work with older non-SSE2 processor PCs. I fired up my old PIII machine to verify it.
Yup, 0.94 working fine now. 🙂
My old AMDonkey needs an upgrade…..

….I haven’t experienced the hang problem on my PC.
Which type of CPU is in your PC?
Oops, although Nucleum appeared to load, I just got back to check the performance and its still loads with ‘a plugin has performed and illegal action’, and altho appearing in the track, its out of action. Any attempt to remove Nucleum causes immediate Podium hang.

I’ve rebuilt the plugin with the previous SM 1.1 beta4, and uploaded a new zip file. The date stamp of the new dll should be 20/04 20:11. Please check if you can load this version of the plugin.
Its working! 🙂
Nucleum 0.93 is not loading here, its hanging Podium, requiring process kill in every attempt.
Thanks.
Thanks for the update!
Though I’m sure I heard some noise from the panning dials on a particular preset, I’ve checked this again and found nothing. Maybe .92 fixed something?
The addition of dotted and triplet delays provides welcome difference for shaping.
Now if only we could do something about that busy cpu. 😉
Imho, Nucleum V1 is done and ready. Apart from relatively large cpu footprint, the overall simplicity in design is a pleasure to engage. I have found it relatively easy and inviting to tweak some imo very usable sounds out of it.
Though there are some wonderful freeware synths out there with great sound and remarkably low cpu hit, their interfaces are awkward and not necessarily inviting. Nonetheless, low cpu instruments and fx will always command more attention.

could you mention/provide links to, specific presets that demonstrate the behavior? I’d be happy to verify and see if I could replicate it in other patches on my system.
The presets, as mentioned above, are mainly drum sounds where the attack seemed to fluctuate, being sometimes present, often not, but as Frits pointed out, the chorus can effect on this. I checked some presets and sure enough.
Preset bank is available on Zynwave wiki rinxai user page here

Couldn’t it be the chorus? Try disabling the chorus (dry/wet to 0) and see if it goes away. The chorus and delay are global effects that run continuously, so notes playing through the chorus may vary depending on where the chorus modulation is at the note-on time.
Yeah, that seems to have been the issue, which was mainly apparent on some drum sounds, in the attack/decay part of the sound, where the attack seems not to quite kick in. Turning the chorus to completely dry seems better. Its a subtle effect, and also appears to lessen with generally better overall tweakage of the sound.
I have emailed a bank (108 presets) to info at zynewave dot com. If anyone else is interested I could upload to KVR patch database, or once I figured how to upload a zip to rinxai user wiki. I will later save out the presets to individual files in a zip.
Cheers
Hey, I like the new knobs! I prefer, very nice!
Dots and triplets please!!!
I have had some instances of buggy behavior, but no crashes yet. In depth report to follow later.
There are a few minor issues with sounds that modulate in some ways when no modulation nor fm is active. Somewhat like an unpredictability in output, which can sometimes add interesting character, and sometimes not. Its quite subtle but is noticeable on certain presets. More details once pinpointed.
If you intend working a lot with MIDI then no feature comparison is necessary, as Podium is much further developed in this department.
It is robust, sleek and has a much more mature implementation of MIDI features.

What remains now are presets, CPU optimization and a few UI flaws with the update of the text readout below the dials.
Thanks for the update. I’m sure its not just my imagination but Nucleum is a very lovely sounding synth to my ears. Its like gonna become my top virtual sound source. I could rattle on at length about the awesomeness of this synth but I’ll leave it at that.
The layout and refinement of the effects is much better.
I now have have about 250 presets and growing, with the ‘best’ to be packed into a single bank for release soon. The 0.9 release is a significant improvement and will require going through and re-tweaking presets. So perhaps by this weekend a full bank of Nucleum goodness.
🙂
