    Hi and welcome!

While it’s certainly possible to record on child tracks, it appears one cannot auto-assign a MIDI input to a track that has no instrument (source) mapping. You’ll have to reassign your MIDI input to each child track manually, I fear. Let me know if you’re having trouble with this!

Why it works this way is a question only Frits can answer. 😉

Auto-assign seems to only work for audio inputs in this case. I remember a thread long ago in which ronin asked about this, but I can’t find it now…

The only workaround to render is to solo the MIDI and coresponding audio track for the respective instrument, render the master and then move bounced audio to a new track.

You shouldn’t need to bounce the master track – in this setup it should be possible to bounce the individual track as long as the corresponding MIDI track is solo’d.

It’s also possible to edit your Hypersonic device mappings so that one MIDI channel input and audio output each are on the same track as opposed to being seperate tracks like the default device mapping creates.

This doesn’t help all that much if you want to edit the resulting audio sequence, though, as you still have to move it off the bounce track. :-k

Edit: I was just looking for an earlier tutorial on this, and look what I found! 🙂 I’ll be glad to try and explain it better this time if you’d like. (http://www.zynewave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2777)

On further reading, installing Grainz is a tad tricky. Among placing folders in various places and carefully named — or else! — one requirement is that the user must place one folder of something or the other into WindowsSystem 32 directory. I didn’t care to hear that, and Ive never come across this before, either.

Heard of this sort of thing as regards granular synths?

Yeah, that seems a little dodgy at first, I admit. It has nothing to do with being a granular thingy, though – the developer just chose to not directly add some required libraries (one to use PNG images, one for compression) into the finished VST package, and instead relies on them being available in a common place on the user’s system.

Just for your information, +bubbler is available at http://www.soundhack.com/freeware/, and you can hear it in action in the video on the Zynewave.com home page, for example. 😉 Be warned that I do remember it needing some .NET package installed to work, however.

Belated Happy New Year to you, Frits! 🙂

I still have an old laptop that runs Windows XP – I’ll give it a try.

Haven’t heard of Grainz, but I’ll try to make time and check it out.

I love granular stuff and actually have just picked up New Sonic Arts’ Granite (http://www.newsonicarts.com) before Christmas, which is very nice. 8) I don’t think the offer is still on, but even at €65 it’s worth it.

One of my other favorites is the free +bubble by Soundhack, which works as insert effect, though.

I’ve never used any guitar-to-MIDI plug-ins before, but I just tried it out.

The MIDI output of the plug-in you mentioned (GuitSynSE) is recorded, but on the track the plug-in is inserted on. This is not the track you see in the track list!

I guess the trick here is to know how Podium’s track hierarchy works, which might be not as obvious if you haven’t been around through the many changes of how it is displayed in the track list.

In order to get to the recorded MIDI sequence, you have to show the effect track in the track list, so its events are exposed on the timeline. You can do this by un-checking the option “Hide Track Lane” on the effect selector’s context menu (available in the mixer, inspector, and the track header [if enabled there])

    Please see (click) this screenshot:

I can’s speak for how well the plug-in works, but let me know if you need any more help setting it up! 🙂
