I think you’re correct with your second assumption there.

I can picture users all over the world looking at their screens, with a cup of tea in one hand and a blissful smile, murmuring “It works. :)”

    A little bug report:
I tried double-clicking the gain and pan controls to open the track properties
so I can input a value directly. It doesn’t work, however. After the double-click, I have to click anywhere in the tracks region or any track to get the track properties to appear. Also, sometimes, after closing the properties window, the track is still selected as if it were click-dragged.

Everything else seems fine, so far!

    Great work again, Frits! 😮

I’m quite happy about this re-design, as I never liked the looks of those faders, to be honest. I do prefer the first version though, the contrast on the less glossy ones isn’t great, imo.

With the new style it is easy to glance up/down the track list and trace the various dB levels.

I agree, plus I’m accustomed to it being this way, as I’ve always used the dials.

The meters are certainly a step forward, but without any indicators they’re still just eye candy (?) Would it be possible to add three or four lines (-6 dB, -12 dB, …) for that purpose? I don’t think there’d be a need for numerical values to the side, like in the mixer.

I would indeed miss at least the X and E buttons, but I’ll have to try the new style first to be certain.

Another thing, the little button to expand tracks really sticks out in darker color schemes! I never noticed this, as I use a very light one.
Would you consider giving it a transparant background, and boldening the “+/-“, maybe?

    Welcome to the club! 😀

I’ve also been at it for ~2 years now, mostly classical, but I also own an electric.

The best tip I can give you is this:
If you’re really serious about it (hey, you said ‘master’ :P), then, from what I’ve learned, the key to success is to really get to understand how your muscles and their memory work! Only if you’re able to control every single movement without any unneccesary tension anywhere (you might find that you tend to tense up your shoulders in anticipation of a barre chord) that you’ll be able to express yourself on any instrument the way you want.

I imagine this is quite hard on one’s own… But it’s not much fun failing to get that 200-bpm metal riff right when your fingers land somewhere else every time… I’ve seen that.

So, even if you don’t plan on playing classical pieces, the ‘classical’ way of sitting, holding and playing is immensly helpful with this! You should try it! 8)

If you’re interested, here’s a classical piece I love. (Not me playing)
And here’s a good place for classical sheet music, with a nice forum, too.

In the end, enjoying yourself is everything, so don’t let yourself be discouraged by anything along the way, Frits! 🙂

Finally managed to play around with it today!
Here’s a cheesy little demo I whipped up (no other instruments/effects or processing):

I’ve put the patches here (if Frits doesn’t mind):

…And I must say it really is a pain because of its high CPU-usage at the moment. 😕

Well done! I’m especially pleased by the timeline fill setting! 🙂

    Here’s a minor bug (?) I found:

Looks like there’s something wrong with the area surrounding event’s names on record-enabled tracks. I guess it has to do with some luminance offset.

Seems to me you’re going a different direction design-wise than when I started to use Podium. But then again… At that time, the UI already was quite some years old and probably merits an overhaul. I still prefer the radial faders (?) to the horizontal ones, and likewise with the new menu buttons. Well, it’s okay. Only I really don’t like those floating Project/Setup/Help buttons. 😕 (I hope the toolbar buttons will be sizable like the edit mode buttons?)

Now– the timeline-color-stuff, on the other hand, I fully approve of! 8)

Lastly, though unlikely for me to use, I like those neon colored tracks in the new def. theme! Certainly would give me a nice first impression.

Trying the new beta was very interesting…

But to cut it short, yes, everything concerning the inspector works better than anticipated.
Two things about the color picker:

1- Is there a reason that you have to choose a saturation value before picking the desired hue? Other than that the color would still be gray?
2- Maybe when a track is not color-enabled yet, there could be a button instead of the HSL bars (or they could be grayed-out, acting as a button) to enable it? If I didn’t overlook something, you still have to open the track properties dialog to do that, meaning more clicks.

    Turned out great! 8)
Still, here are two cosmetic flaws I noticed:

1- Both the GP and the compact track headers seem to ignore the “active selection text” color setting, making somewhat hard to read with most color schemes. 🙁

2- The input mapping name extends a bit too far. Maybe somebody else can confirm this?

More experiments. This one I would really like your opinion about.

YES! This is wonderful! Love it, although it reminds me (not in a bad way) a little bit of Cubase. 🙂

    @Zynewave wrote:

Is the problem only the lack of precision when dragging the pan slider?

Not at all, I’m just very used to it this way from other hosts.
I wanted to suggest for the slider to be equally adjustable on both axis, like your dials behave. I don’t know if it would be awkward to others…
I can live with it if you decide against this. 😉

Hm, I prefer the look of beta 7 after all, but I realize you can’t have an option for every little thing. So who am I to stand in the way of progress! 😆

But this one’s bugging me a little, so here’s a request:
Would you still consider making the sliders, at least the panning, adjustable by moving the mouse on the y-axis? (With the dials, both ways were fine.)

And a question: Will all corresponding dials in the GP, and especially the ones on parent tracks in the chain panel be eventually replaced with sliders? I figure they’d have to be pretty tiny again to fit.
