You should be able to get the render to work if you temporarily swap the master mapping with the one that starts at channel 1.
Uhm, sorry again, but could you guide me please of how to do this step-by-step?
Thanks Zynewave! No doubt about this problem is caused by a newbie. I tried all sorts of things and its rather surprising Podium only crashed once one me π

Hm.. I do not see any mappings on your tracks..
All the mappings are gone for the moment, I will bring them back later. @Podianer wrote:
And why do you route the audio track to the midi track above?
I’m using a Vocoder, which uses an audio track and a midi track. However, with all the mappings gone for the moment, there is only the Audio track left playing by itself and I can hear it. Buy yet I still can’t bounce it off.
If I press CTRL+B the bounce track is active, but then “Render Bounce Track” is disabled, and I can’t bounce it off at all. (EDIT: Isn’t the purpose of activating the bounce track it’s muting all tracks underneath and listening to a rendered/bounced track?).
See the image below:

How can I simply bounce the track off? I can hear audio and you can see the audio tracks underneath the bounce track.
I have Image Line Plugins installed, but they work, no problems whatsoever.
However, here is a picture of the bounce problem:
As you can see i created a Bounce track. if i click the right mousebutton and select “Render bounce track”, it’s empty. What do I do wrong?
Podium crashed earlier, since then I try to bounce a track off but can’t make it work – it’s always empty. However, if I double click on existing audio tracks, an empty window appears saying “There are no compatible profiles for this editor. This could be caused by a currupt setup file. To restore the Podium setup to defaults, select ‘load defaultsetp’ in the project page setup menu [and so on].”
So I did and needed to scan the VST folder on my harddisk again and it makes Podium crash every time, and I have to start again from scratch next time I start Podium. Have to check it again tomorrow which causes trouble.
> If you have punch-in/out enabled, the bounce will be limited to that range.
Thanks for this info! I’ll double check it tomorrow.

You first have to draw a sound event on the bounce track using the pencil tool.
OK, i just figured that out and i can render the track – but its empty like it didn’t received any audio and it renders for less than 1 second. I must do some really basic mistake!?

Maybe not exactly what you requested; but you can toggle quantize on/off with the T shortcut key.
Great, that works too. While resizing a clip and hold the left mousebutton pressed, I can still press T, thats great!
SHIFT/ALT/CTRL would be a just a more common way for any action while the mousebutton is already pressed. But nevermind, different programs, different shortcuts, I just have to get used to it. Thanks π
Thanks zynewave π
By default the background grid could change with the quantize step. It would be great for the grid to reflect another grid if wanted.
However, here is an analogy of the real world when recording a sound:
> 1. First, the source (a voice, an instrument, etc…)
> 2. going into a microphone
> 3. effects get applied such as reverb, delay, etc..
> 4. output on a speaker.
You wouldn’t start numbering a list from 4 down to 1 in the real world either (silly example, but that’s how it feels like first in Podium). I’m not saying this is right or wrong but that’s the way new users obviously think including me.

When you’re new to the program you see it with fresh eyes.
Lets hope so…
I definatly do not see with fresh eyes, i used Cubase on Atari and later on PC from early 90s until 98, since then i’m looking desperatly for any easy to understand sequencer. Naturally, if i like it or not, i compare avery new software to cubase i used back then, it’s an instinct and not easy to switch off. But times have changed and things got more complicated. Today we’re working with audio tracks, no more midi hardware synths (me for once), virtual instruments, freezing tracks, sends/returns/routing, and more, its alot to take in and to bring all these features under a hood. Cubase SX got way too complicated for me, too big, too slow, too (you-name-it). I always try to keep open minded, but it’s not easy and you detect yourself falling into old pattern, which are not necessary always good.
From my users point of view:
In my understanding, when stretching a midi clip (or audio clip), you would leave the original data of the clip untouched. For example, every clip has a stretch amount in percent, by default 100%, so you could stretch it any time later to whatever you like. 50% is double as fast, 25% is four times faster, 200% is two times slower, etc… If you like, you could ‘freeze’ the midi clip and all midi events are moved towards the new timing, and the midi clip’s stretch amount is reset to 100%. Maybe having a time-stretch curve for midi-clips as well as for audio clips, so it would be possible to stretch clips over the timeline π Ok, i’m going nuts here.
Point is, I think nothing should be deconstructive. If a pattern’s speed playback is stretched by 150%, I would still like to edit it in 100% time (or 200% or whatever time).
I had a closer look at some Tutorials such as here:
http://www.zynewave.com/wiki/doku.php?id=tutorials:tracks:index
Those are really good written and they help me alot to understand Podium!
The only thing about them is they haven’t been updated? I don’t have βWrap in new group trackβ in my version of Podium, the Icons look different as well. Not a biggie, but confusing at first.

spritex, I see you changed your signature line at KVR!
Hehe, indeed. I was getting frustrated with the eXT2 development because of the broken state of the engine (I get horrible glitches whatever I do), which hasn’t gotten any better with the latest updates and Jorgen hasn’t commented on this for some reason.
Also the fact that it will probably take a loooong time before automation and other important things are implemented.
Before it was started, I got the impression that eXT2 is mostly ready and testing can start (in three phases). I was disappointed to see that it’s still very unfinished. Also, I cound’t care less about the Linux version.
I had no idea that Podium is as sophisticated as it is. π
+1! I was about to jump totally into XT and Xt2 but its frusttrating to see the development and i don’t care about the Linux version either. I agree that Podium is pretty solid, as you said, lots of small things here and there (even though i haven’t fully understood its concept yet π ), but im going there.
