Have you tried the 1.95 beta on another PC, and if so did the distortion happen there?

Try switching to Wave drivers instead of ASIO4ALL on your laptop, and check if the distortion still happens.

it took 40 seconds to power off

I’m assuming you mean 40 seconds for Podium to exit, not including saving the project file.

Next time try to load another project before quitting, and check if the 40 seconds delay occur during the loading of the new project. This can help determine if the delay happens in the project cleanup code or the Podium exit code.

Beta 7 is uploaded. Further refinements to the layout of the group/chain panels. Added icons next to mappings. The input mapping is shown as well. Still need to revise the track menus.

There are no changes to the engine since 1.94. The track routing code has been modified to check for the compact mode, but I can’t see how that should affect audio playback.

Do you run antivirus, spyware or firewall software on your laptop? Maybe these will probe the activities of the Podium beta since it is run as an .exe that is not a proper installed application. Just a wild guess.

Do you experience the distortion even with a simple arrangement playing a single sound file without any plugins?

Is the distortion affected if you increase the ASIO buffer size?

One can easily bring up the Track properties window by clicking just about anywhere else on a track or mixer strip already so can you possibly change this behavior so that a double click on the new glass gain sliders at track level will reset the value of a slider to 0db instead of bringing up the properties window?

Double clicking the fader or the pan dial opens the properties dialog and sets focus to the gain or pan edit field, so you can quickly enter a precise numeric value. Ctrl+clicking faders or dials will reset to default (i.e. 0dB for the gain).

Create a new project or open one of your projects that still have the audio inputs folder. Locate the “Audio Inputs” folder in a list window (Ctrl+L) and use the “Copy” context menu. Remember to keep the folder collapsed so that all child objects also get copied. Open the project file in which you deleted the audio inputs. Locate the Devices folder. Paste.

i hope this is not at the cost of engine effeciency or gui clarity?

The new track layout options are done without any changes to the engine, so engine efficiency is not affected.

I remember something changed in my debugging as well back when I added support for dragging files from plugins/file explorer onto tracks. I implemented the IDropTarget interface, which has had the effect that my debugger halts when I drag a file over Podium. Maybe that is the cause for your Delphi debugger problem too.

Would that be the case for all kinds of tracks? I find it quite useful to hide a bounce track at the top of a FX-chain, when I am not in need of it. Due to the high amount of flexibility these changes bring to Podium, and on the same hand also problems of understanding the hierarchy for new users, I would suggest making this an option, but enabled by default.

An option to hide an option to hide track lanes? “Hide hide track lane” 🙂

It would be for all tracks. As I mentioned earlier in this topic, I’m considering ways to keep bounce tracks hidden as well. But I’m still undecided on this. Maybe the solution is to add a third track layout option, similar to the compact mode but with fewer track customization options and thus more secure for new users.

I don’t understand : ot xill be nore more possible to hide / a track lane ?

As discussed on page 9 of this topic, I am considering removing the option from the track menu and let Podium automatically handle the hiding of effects tracks (only in compact mode). Since my aim with compact mode is simplicity, I was afraid that the option may cause confusion. If a user accidentally hides e.g. the master track, it could be hard to find that you need use the menu in the group panel to show the lane again. I can expect a lot of support questions on that issue. If you want to reduce the space occupied by the master track, isn’t it sufficient to minimize the master track lane?

so i’m not sure about your idea to change the inspector as mentioned in page 3 of this thread; and the compact mode in 195 gives fast access to busses, effect routings etc but you still need the inspector for the input mappings; midi and audio.

Since I first designed the track inspector years ago as a panel inside the tracks region, the inspector has grown in size with the addition of embedded plugin editors and the group panel. I’m considering moving the inspector out of the tracks region and instead embed it as a panel at the left edge of the browser window, similar to the “List” panel at the right edge. Imagine there is an “Inspector” tab at the top left corner, just before the project tab. This has the advantage that the inspector can be the full height of the window, and showing the mixer will not reduce the height.

What I suggest here does not change the functionality of the track inspector. It’s just an idea for moving the placement of the inspector from inside the tracks region to the left edge of the editor window. It will allow the inspector to use the full height of the screen.

One question – How to hide master track from tracks view.(but all other tracks must stay visible)

Currently you can do it with the “Hide Track Lane” track menu option on the master track. To show the master track again you need to right click the topmost master track in the inspector group panel and clear the “Hide Track Lane” option. I’m actually planning on removing the possibility to hide track lanes because it can create confusion. Why do you want to hide the master track?

You can create effect tracks in compact…

But if you switch to expanded, you can not create them. But if you click on the child of the fx track, you can delete it.

    Is this intentional?

The “New Effect Track” is a menu I created for the compact mode. The expanded mode is still unmodified compared to previous Podium releases. When I’ve completed the compact mode, I’ll probably modify the expanded track menu commands so they match the compact mode menus.
