    Hello Ikandobalt,

I’m afraid the answer is ‘no’ to all your questions πŸ™ . But I like all your suggestions, so I’ll implement them at some point. For the time being I’m putting all minor feature updates on hold though, to prepare for a couple of major updates to the audio support.

I cannot think of any other feature that is wanted more, yet you say so little about it. Is it that you really do not see the importance of it or as I suspect it would require a major rework under the hood of Podium?

I don’t think it is fair to say I say so little about it. On several topics over the last couple of months I have mentioned that improvement of audio features is going to be the next big step on my plan. I do see its importance, and it doesn’t require a major rework of the engine.

Most of the features implemented over the last few months, such as the project start page, have been usability enhancements. User feedback on e.g. kvr suggested that it was difficult to get started with Podium, so I considered this equally important as event fades. You yourself have contributed a large number of posts about the urgency of making it easier for new users to get into Podium. It’s hard to please everyone at the same time. I’m trying to please most people with frequent Podium releases. I’m sadened if this gives the impression that I’m ignoring big features like event fades. Sometimes I wonder if it would be a better solution to do like e.g. JΓΈrgen is doing with eXT2; Stop the frequent releases and announce that something “big” is coming up, and then go undercover for a year or so.

The VST .fxp file format can store max 24 chars in the preset names. So when you export a preset with a longer name to fxp, the name is cut off.

Also Frits were you able to extend the ZPEQ bank capacity to 64 programs?

I think I’ll leave zPEQ as it is for now. Importing your preset files as library presets works quite well I think.

If you are just looking for a way to verify whether there are any events on a hidden track, you could check the event list in the track inspector. When I designed the hidden track lane feature, the main purpose was to be able to hide tracks that had no events on the timeline.

This FR goes in at the low-priority end of the todo list πŸ˜‰

    New tutorial: Multiple monitor outputs

    Comments?

I wonder if any of you have done something similar, or even were aware that you could do something like this in Podium?

I just spotted the rather bold Podium banner.

The banner is a screenshot of the new splash screen you will see when 1.71 is released.

I’m currently writing about the project start page in the guide, and the “getting started” pages will be updated as well. Having the guide in the wiki section will hopefully make it easier for me to keep the guide updated. When I eventually fill out the remaining chapters, my goal is to keep it updated on every release.

Maybe as members we could somehow chip in to update certain parts for you?

You’re all welcome to edit the wiki. If you’re afraid to touch the Podium guide, then you could consider writing tutorials describing how you work with Podium. This way you could get feedback on the tutorials in the forums with suggestions on how to improve the workflow.

I’ve added a “Sort Alphabetically” command to the context menu of a multiple object selection. This command is available in the browser and list windows, as well as the start page lists.

Thanks Duncan. I’ve now switched to PDFCreator. The sponsor pop-ups of pdf995 was getting quite annoying.

I have seen the T3 video. Wasn’t the category browsing a feature for loop files rather than plugin presets?

Certainly I would wait until the VST3 spec is made public by Steinberg. The info says it supports a category description for the plugin. Maybe they also added something like this for presets, although I doubt it.

    Time frame for implementation?

    Not this year.

Before adding loop browsing features, I need to improve the loop playback support.

Rather than starting a new topic, I’m reviving this old one πŸ™‚

Since this topic was started, the Podium guide has been moved to the wiki section. The last couple of days I have spent some time making an easily printable version of the guide based on the wiki pages. I would rather not have to maintain two different versions of the guide in the future (the wiki pages and the old html guide). Take a look at this page:

    http://www.zynewave.com/wiki/doku.php?id=guide:index

There is a new link that will open the entire guide in a single printer-friendly web page. I have tried some of the freeware pdf printer drivers, and the next release of Podium will contain a pdf file instead of the now obsolete html guide.

I am also searching for a slightly more advanced pdf printer-driver, which would allow auto-generation of pdf bookmarks (to create a linkable TOC in the pdf). If anyone encounters a pdf printer-driver that can do this, please let me know. It doesn’t have to be freeware.

Is there something special to do , because with Hypercanvas , i have only one midichannel created?

That must be because Hypercanvas only has a single stereo output in which case Podium imports it as an insert plugin. I’ll add a “New multitimbral instance” right click menu for instrument insert mappings. Meanwhile you’ll need to create the MIDI channel mappings manually.

So what is the difference between peak & rms ?

I think google can answer that better than I can. Anybody got any good links about this?

I notice that the mixer levels in Podium seem to reflect peak.

    Correct.

Logic suggests to me that you do everything you can to get the hottest level at source, then change levels in software (or soundcard input stage ?) as required.

Correct. Use the full range (to get the noise floor level of the converters as far away from the average signal level) and then reduce gain until you have eliminated overloading/clipping on peak inputs.

Would the following be the right track layout to use with this setup to get the CS1x output into Podium’s mixer engine ?

    Master Audio Track
    ->Group track – CS1x ( global mapping )
    –>Child track – CS1x [01]
    –>Child track – CS1x [02]
    –>Child track – CS1x [03]
    etc…

That should work. It is not necessary though to put the MIDI tracks as child tracks of the global audio track, although that may be a nice way to organize things. You can put all the CS1x mapped tracks on the same group level if you prefer.
