How is the “Sequencer” profile saved ?

All the profiles are saved as part of the Podium.ini file, along with all the other program settings.

Anyway, I tried copying it – where do you “paste” it to ?

The copy button works like a duplicate command, so pressing copy should have created an identically named copy of the highlighted profile in the list. Immediately after pressing copy, press the properties button to edit the new profile.

Do I need to create a new arrangement to do all of this because the only one available from the “new browser” window (in Arrangements and Sounds) is the same one I used for the sequencer profile.

You should not create new arrangement objects. Only new profiles.

I’m sure they used to remain (albeit very close together), even when the track is collapsed.

    Am I wrong ?

No, you remember right. There was dividing lines before I redesigned the track headers with the arrow look. I’ll try to reintroduce the lines for the next release.

I then opened a new browser window and opened the New Arrangement, but this is a replica of the first arrangement.

If I try to edit this to be a “mixer” arrangement, obviously the same changes happen to the first arrangement….

You need to create a new profile, which you then will use in your second browser window. It’s easiest if your start by copying your existing arrangement profile in the profiles dialog: Select your ‘sequencer’ profile and click the ‘copy’ button. Rename the new profile as ‘mixer’ and edit the regions. You can create any number of profiles that you can use in the editors. The view menu in the editors will list all available profiles for that particular sequence type.

Could you try to create a new project using the project wizard in 1.66 and see if this causes it to hang?

I did that just now and specified first the RealGuitar2 folder and then my whole vstplugin folder, both worked, no problem-quick import, no hanging.

    Any ideas on this? 😕

I downloaded the realguitar2 demo yesterday, and will test it later tonight.

Are there any plans for Podium to move in this direction ?

Perhaps. I’m not familiar with the FLS MIDI composition tools, so I can’t say for sure.

However, the next couple of months are dedicated to improving the audio features of Podium.

so you can’t arrange your windows to a “default” setting for whenever you open the project e.g. they all appear in their stored positions across the 2 monitors ?

The number of open windows and their positions are stored in the setup. But if you have two browser windows open, they will both show the project page when you start Podium. You need to select the arrangement in both windows to start editing.

A new tutorial is up on the wiki section:

    The track hierarchy

Please consider making the vertical track header area a bit wider. The ‘hit point’ is far too narrow for something so powerful and useful.

You can do that already. Open the view menu -> profile properties -> tracks -> properties, and adjust the ‘vertical group bar width’ setting.

What do you mean with folder implementation?

Edit: Oh, you mean the sound file folders on disk. I thought you meant track folders.

im lost with the header and pixels part. say i wanted to add a compressor and delay to a lead vocals how would i add both at once.

This is a recurring question, so I figured it would be worthwhile spending a few hours putting together a tutorial on the hierarchic track tree:

It seems even seasoned Podium users could pick up a few hints here 😉

Can you explain this method too me. Im used to using the likies of protools and Nuendo and need something for home, and im seriously lost.

Cut and paste from my reply to your post on kvr:

If you are trying to add an instrument to a new track, you can drag the instrument mapping below the last track to create a new track. If you are trying to add an effect plugin to e.g. an instrument plugin track, the easiest way to do it is to drag the effect mapping onto the first ten pixels of the instrument track header (the part will be highlighted accordingly). This will wrap the instrument track in a new track with the effect plugin.

    Hi,

this supports only 1 plugin per track?

Yes. A track in Podium is both used as a modular connection point between devices as well as having a track lane. You can hide track lanes in the hierarchy so that you can create a chain of plugin tracks that only occupy a single track lane in the arrangement.

say i have song “fi fo fum” and create audio tracks does it save ot its on subdirectory folder called fi fo fum?

Funny you should mention this. I’ve been thinking about implementing this in extension of the recent project start page feature. It’s not implemented currently, but I hope it will be ready in one of the two next releases.

    1. Stickie notes for the first two columns: The New project and Arrangement and sounds columns have no stickie notes. I would like to be able to include notes for those columns.

But there are stickie note buttons on the project properties panel, and the properties panel at the bottom of the arrangements column?

I noticed that the E button still has no tooltip when the mouse cursor rolls over it. Yes, once a new project is created a message is displayed that tells a user what it does (great addition) but still I think a tooltip that will appear when a mouse cursor is over it, will also help. “Click the E button to open plug in Editors (Short cut E)” very short and simple…this text is taken from the other new message shown after a new project is made. I still think the E button should be changed to VST, FX / INST or GUI as they are more descritpive than simply E. ?!?!?

E is short for Edit or Editor. It may extend its purpose if I later on add some feature for opening editors for external devices. If you hover over the E button in the track inspector you get a tooltip. I deliberately avoided tooltips over the buttons in the track headers because I think it would be too annoying with popups appearing constantly when you edit the tracks.

    4. B Bounce button tool tip:

Again, there is a tooltip on the B button in the track inspector.

I still think it is not a good idea to switch it off by default for new users especially. New blank projects are highly unlikely to have any mappings so having this on by default avoids confusing a new user when there is no sound.

When you create a new arrangement then it by default has two tracks with audio input and an instrument/MIDI input track. I think I mention it in the ‘getting started’ chapter in the guide; that you should be careful with your monitoring levels when activating live audio inputs. That is why it is not turned on by default.

Icons for Arrangements and sounds. Right now there appears to be no way to differentiate between the two.

The icon for an arrangement is a score sheet, and the icon for a sound is an oceanic wave. Or are you talking about some place where the icons are not shown?

I know that, thanks to the Devices Mappings, things are not so compartmentalized, and that external MIDI instruments are at the same time “devices” and “plugins”. Idem for the VST effects and the VST instruments which some people could find helpfull to distinct but are the same things.
So the separation is somewhat artificial, but can nevertheless be usefull for the end user.
It is just my point of view of course…

I think the this distinction would become clearer if I implemented different icons for the different types of devices, as has been suggested by a couple of users before. There would be different icons for hardware/plugins and effects/instruments as well as MIDI and audio input mappings. Currently all mappings are shown with the ‘bunch of cables’ icon 🙄

    Some ideas for device pictures:
MIDI input: The 5-pin MIDI cable plug.
    Audio input: A microphone.
Audio output: A speaker or headphones.
External effect: Picture of a rack unit with visible screwholes 😉
External instrument: Picture of a keyboard.
Plugin effect/instrument: A bit trickier. Any ideas?

but your “mixer” is glued to the bottom of the arrange page isn’t it ?

Only in the default setup. You can change the layout of the editors with the sequence profiles. You could remove the mixer completely from the arrangement profile and create a new profile containing e.g. two mixer regions. You would then open a new browser window and place that in your second screen. When you want to edit an arrangement, select the arrangement in both browser windows and select your mixer profile from the view menu in the second browser window. You then have one screen reserved for timeline editing and another screen for mixing.
