    Hi Alex,

Do you have to register or something after downloading? Or is it a simple “add to vst folder” procedure?
For the PLugMix vst I’m asking…

After such elaborate reply (Tele, you really enjoy writing don’t ya?! :)) I can only say that the OP really said it from the start this was a topic “to be fooling around”! Don’t anyone get too serious about it… It was meant to be distracting, not disrupting.

Hint: Podium’s editor is about 3-4 times better.

    I strongly disagree:

While I was using it, as demo, Reaper MIDI prevent me doing anything. In Podium MIDI is a breeze to work.
So, to me, Podium is not 3-4 x better. It’s about + infinity better.

    😉

Strong words, but honestly in Reaper I didn’t do much MIDI at all.

Now, that type of comment I find totally useless.

Let me tell you something: if you just want to test a DAW, use the mouse and paint notes in the piano roll. It is a much more appropriate method. Anyway, if having the virtual PC keyboard input will determine if a DAW is a looser or not in your opinion, I must say you will simply not be able to appreciate what Podium has to offer. Indeed, why not look to something else?

You do not buy a MIDI controller to test a DAW, but for sure you’ll need one if MIDI is your stuff…

    Best of luck!

This might not help much, but maybe you can check:

    – that your Windows setting is optimized for audio. Mainly System Properties>Advanced>Processor scheduling – background services and Memory usage – programs.

    – that your wi-fi adaptor, antivirus program, bluetooth, maintainance programs, etc are off or suspended.

    – I suggest that you back-up your work in Podium and try then to reinitialize Podium and open the project. See if there is something changed.

    – try render a one track project, with no VST on it and see if it still crashes. If not, I am afraid you’ll have to go through elimination to see what causes the fail.

Let’s just be cool about it.
Sometimes, we are (I am at least) frustrated that Podium is not so complete qas we would like. Some other times, when we overcome this stage, we are frustrated with others not seeing the positive sides of Podium! 😉 Human nature I guess.
I am confident, despite the sloooooow movement, that Podium is work in progress and will continue to be for as long as Frits will be able to write a code line or two… Let’s just say I understand better now what a “labour of love” is. 😉
In the meanwhile Podium continues to make me happy (and occasionaly very angry) and provides great tools for (almost all of) my work. Thank you!

    I was there a few months ago…

Well, for Podium Free, this is really no-issue I’m afraid. It IS the most generous FREE aplication. By far. I can only say Thank you a million Frits for Podium Free!!!

As for Podum as a paid for DAW… Indeed, seeing such a slow development will make you think is a dead duck. There are some very basic (found in almost all DAWs) features, like multiple track selection, effects copy/paste, time-stretching, etc that are missing and some were requested for many years. Seeing this, I was not in a hurry to become a licenced user – but I will become once some serious development will take place.

I do not think Podium is at all dead. The best example is Wavosaur – the forum dead like really dead, not like this forum which is still breathing, no updates, everyone was sure Wavosaur is gone. Yet, out of blue, after about three years, the updates started to be available again, bring in many improvements.

So, because Zynewave it’s a one-man team, I’ve come to realize that Podium development is very dependent on the available time and resources of it’s developer. It will never become (I dont’ think) a real competition to other more commercial DAWs, but rather will for ever has it’s own development pace, obviously slower than what we’d all like, but nevertheless existent.

I am absolutely sure that Frits will continue working on new improvements.

The only regret that I have it’s that Podium can not yet be used as a single DAW aplication. At this point in time, for one task or another, you need to use some other piece of software too. I don’t like that, but it’s a fact.

Anyway, stick to it. Updates and upgrades will come. In the meanwhile, enjoy the work with Podium (Free) as much as you can.

    Cheers,
    Adi

Could it be a RAM memory issue? Do you have plenty of it?

In my minimalistic aproach, 100 VSTs are way too many. Way toooo many!
On the other hand, if you use a large number of effects, not all of them need to be different, and in this case a send rather then an insert is a much better idea. Most of the times.

Anyway, about PT improvement… Fine, good for them. I am much more interested in the improvements that Podium will introduce. 😉 It is interesting too see how many innovative ideas that came first in the smaller, more flexible and user-oriented DAWs (like Podium, Reaper, etc.) are now introduced in big DAWs, which are by definition more conservative.

Questions is: what will be the next ideas to make once again the little DAWs more appealing and ground-breaking? And don’t tell me mobility through the tablets and smartphones! 😯

I think I’d like Pro Tools, as far as I got to know it. I never worked with it, but it seem it’s not really the worst when it comes about (my) workflow. But lucky me, I don’t have to worry about this – I consider a utterly waste of money to actually pay those amounts. But hey, some prefer Mercedes, some are perfectly happy with Dacia by Renault! 😉
