Sorry Melody Man it is a secret. 😛
No seriously it is lovely no? 8) It is a Windows 7 wallpaper image. The one I am using is almost made for Podium as if to illustrate all the possibilities.
Where to get it and the rest of the Windows 7 Wallpaper images?
That would be here. 🙂
Or you could go straight here. Click on the images to find a selector (top right) that should allow you to download a resolution to suit your screen.
Enjoy 🙂
I have put together a Getting Started Tutorial for Podium 2.09 onwards. Hope it helps. 🙂

Yay, there’s a screenie of my Nucleum example. 🙂
Thanks for the heads up, and… NICE background (and screen size, obviously )!
Thanks 8)
I’m running Podium at ➡ 1900 by 1200. 8)

I’ve now replaced all the old screenshots.
A lovely set of images I must say. Well done. They showcase different aspects of Podium a new user might not see immeadiately. They also showcase Podiums rather slick design. Looks great!
I’m going to contact kvr and ask if they can replace the screenshot they have in their database:
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/834.html
The current one must have been from the first 0.90 release from four years ago. It’s almost painful to look at .
Thank you! 🙂 It was reeeeeeeeeeeally looking quite dated.
It makes me wonder how Podium is going to look four years from now.
I was wondering the same thing. Funnily enough I doubt the start page at least will change that much. Other areas might I guess over time. Four years is a very long time in a hosts dev cycle so yes it could be a very different Host at some point in future. 🙂

The reason why the others do it that way is because its the simplest implementation. You see a rectangle, you double click or draw inside of it, the note is placed inside of it. Simple — What-you-see-is-what-you-get.
Agreed. Some sort of option to change the behaviour would be very welcome. It does seem quite strange in its current form but an option to change it solves that problem IMO.

Could be included as an option if there were enough requests for it. There are quite a few of these ‘options’ in Podium born from differing opinions.
Yep. 8) I think this is one of those issues that requires one. It really is at times the only way to please as many users as possible. It also provides a nice level of flexibility as well.
@Zynewave wrote:
It is not possible to save the project file, and yet not save changes to some arrangements in the project.
I don’t understand what you mean here Frits. 😐 I cannot speak for everyone but the way I read aMUSEd comments is that he is not saying he wants to save Arrangements and drop the saving of projects completely or indeed at all, just that he wants to have options to save Arrangements as well or in addition to Projects.
Why did you bring up saving a project or not saving a project? He simply wants to have an Arrangement save as option similar to Trackions Edit’s.
Just trying to understand your comments please.
Personally I’m quite happy with not having to worry about saving individual arrangements, and all the related pit falls with lost changes and unintentionally overwritten arrangement files, etc.
Well that sounds like your personal workflow preference surely Frits. 🙂 If there is a way to ease the passage of users of Tracktion or indeed other hosts to Podium why not entertain and consider the idea? More users is of course the main goal here. If your existing or potential users want something, is it not worth doing even if you personally see no merit in it?
It is human to not agree, no problem there (we all do it) but to not consider something because of a personal workflow preference is very strange as you are surely developing Podium to keep existing customers and draw in potential customers.
Many ideas / FR’s can be more difficult to implement than they appear, but it’s not clear from your comments if that is what you are trying to say. Even if that was the case I still think it is worth serious consideration unless it is just not possible from a dev point of view.
Nice pics aMUSED! 🙂

Loading projects by double-clicking in the recent projects list is no different from loading the file with the “Open Project” menu and file dialog.
Ok thanks. That must mean the problem I had must have been caused by something else. In any case if it crops up again I will let you know. 8)

The point is I would like to be able to do it as I go along and cumulatively, not in advance. I don’t really see the problem with this in itself
Agreed. I understand what you are trying to do and would like the process to be easier as well. I think you made a reference to Tracktion earlier in this thread IIRC and I can see why you started this thread….
@ Frits..
This will IMO make things easier for new users. I think the terminology used in Podium is slightly confusing. Not necessarily for regular users but new users…I think it can be made easier to increase the uptake of Podium for users of other hosts. Being different and unique is something Podium benefits from in *many* ways…after reading this thread I think aMUSEd has raised an interesting point and IMO it would benefit Podium if the way arrangements are presented or named is revised.
Tracktion and Podium.
Ok..Tracktion has Projects like Podium, but they really are folders or holders (Active and Library) and that is it. I am not aware of any save as or save options for Projects in Tracktion.
Projects and arrangements
Podium…has Projects as well of course but they would be equivalent to Tracktions Edits in terms of functionality roughly, but they cross over with the Project concept in Tracktion as well.
Projects in Podium can have multiple Arrangements.
Any active Project in Tracktion can have multiple Edits…
Save process.
Tracktion gives each Edit the following commands for saving…
Podium allows for Projects to be saved or saved as e.t.c but not Arrangements AFAICT.
I think aMUSED wants the kind of options in the image above to appear for Arrangements in Podium.
In a nutshell that is what I think he is asking for and I think it will be easier and more flexible if similar options (or at least an Arrangement save as option) are added to the Arrangements command list.
@Zynewave wrote:
It would defeat the purpose of having an all-embracing project file, if your edits to arrangements are not saved unless you use a “save” command in the arrangement editor.
I don’t think that is the suggestion being made (at least the way I understand it). Project save options are still useful as one may want to save all the changes in all arrangements in a project with a single command.
If a user wants only to save changes to a single arrangement (out of more than one in a project) then only that arrangement is saved.
Of course if you only have one Arrangement in a project then the Arrangement save as option will effectively work as a Project Save as.
I think it would also be a good idea to at least bring up a box that warns a user that “Other arrangements have not been saved in this project would you like to save those changes as well?” if a project is about to be closed and other arrangements with changes (in that project) are yet to be saved.
Thoughts? 🙂
As always Frits a top draw release thanks 🙂
I was having some trouble loading projects in 2.08. For some reason after making changes and multiple saves any attempt to load another project resulted in Podium simply slowing to a crawl and not responding if any click was made on the screen (after waiting for minutes).
I did not bring it pre 2.09 as it disappeared almost as mysteriously as it appeared. Last 3 projects in 2.08 were fine even the same problem projects are fine now in 2.08.
Yet to see problems in 2.09 and it was intermittent in 2.08. I am having a good look at Vistas Resource Monitor (pretty cool) to see if anything was / is starving Podium of Ram (I have 8GB so that is more than plenty for Vista and Podium). So far so good. I’ll let you know if it flares up again. It might have been a plugin…not sure.
Interestingly though when loading a project form the Recent Projects: area there was no lock up or slow down. Are they different processes in Podium? Will the Recent Projects list cache projects in some way?
So far so good for now (2.09) but I am interested on how Podium saves data thanks. 🙂

Hey Conquistator, about unwanted notes, you can delete them leaving 6-7 (or any number) rows if you want in the devices library. I think that it needs be more easy althought without use the devices library.
Hi LiquidProj3ct. Correct you are. 8) However I know this already and even wrote a drum map guide some time ago (2006) that includes steps on how to do this as well. 8)
My point (you picked up on this as well) is that it really should be much easier than having to go to the List view e.t.c to sort it out. There should be no need for that. 😐 Even if you can save your set up as a track template it is very tedious, would very likely befuddle any new user and really should be changed.
That was the point I was making. But thanks for taking the time to offer help and post that image. 😉

I think that right mouse button is now obsolete. You can do the 99% of operations with pencil tool and keyboard shortcuts [Ctrl/Alt/Shift combinations]. You could do a customization of right mouse button also 🙂 (I’d use it for delete notes)
Personally I think Podium is way too keyboard shortcut centric. But if it provides more choice for users…thats fine. I would still use the right click menu instead. But that is just my workflow…I have little or no use for keyboard shortcuts unless I have no choice in Podium.
Things like trying to disable solo or mute for multiple tracks…there should be no need for a shortcut for that. Been that way for ages. 😐
– A simplified way for work with drums (adding/deleting/moving drums row in the same drum editor)
I wanted to bring this up earlier but thought Frits was only focusing on the PR. Of course the PR and the drum grid crossover in more ways than one so I would be very happy to see an overhaul of the drum grid. It certainly needs it…
1. Kit creation without unwanted notes. When you create a drum kit Preset you still have unwanted notes in the drum grid that is created.
2. Mute and solo buttons for each lane.
Like this…
What we have now is a very spartan looking drum grid view which is in sharp contrast to the new PR and the drum grid image above as an example…
You can clearly see in the image above, unwanted notes still show up in the drum grid.
3. Flams
A simple way to create flams or rolls, maybe a double click on a note creates a user pre configured flam value or amount.
