Perhaps some small shadow or a kind of texture that makes it look more plastic.
I have no immediate plans on changing the appearance of the mixer. I’ve got plenty of ideas for added features, but the general appearance is ok by me. What specific elements do you think are dull?
I would be very interested in extending those lovely ‘glass’ faders that appear during automation playback in the mixer, to every track in the mixer by default.
At least an option to show those faders in the mixer on each track. Those automation faders look great. The faders even show digits as well. 🙂 I think those faders would be a veeeeeery nice addition to the mixer, they really should be on every mixer strip by default or at least made optional IMHO. 😉

I’ve added a ‘show audio meters’ option to the tracks region properties dialog.

The plot thickens it seems because I just tried your suggestion and renamed the GEQ7M plug to GEQ7M test.
Guess what? Live and Tracktion did indeed show the plugin as ‘GEQ7M test’! Podium still imported the renamed file as just GEQ-7. ❗
I noticed something else which may help identify the problem here…Podium is naming the plug in with the hyphen “-” while the others are not ❓ ❗ ❓
They name it GEQ7S, Podium names it GEQ-7 with the hyphen inserted for each variant of the GEQ plug, but it still can’t ‘see’ the S and M file names that the other hosts ‘see’.
Tracktion and Live indeed, appear to be using the filename, but Podium is picking up a different name with a slight difference for the plug. Maybe Torben has used an interpretation of the VST spec in the development of the GEQ 7 plug that you have not come across yet in Podium? I guess only he can answer that.
In any case Podium is interpreting the file name differently from all the other hosts I have tried. Torben clearly wanted them to show up differently to avoid the obvious confusion that would follow if he did not add the letters M and S to his Stereo and Mono variants of the GEQ plug.
Somehow Podiums scanning process has not yet encountered this kind of plug in yet. Perhaps this is why it ‘sees’ the GEQ7 plugs differently, even though the GEQ-7 string is still being returned from all three variants as you mentioned earlier.
Just guessing as to what mght be the cause of a somewhat strange problem.
@Zynewave wrote:
Downloaded, tested and confirmed. Could it be that the hosts you say display the names correctly are showing the plugin filenames?
Unless our interpretation of ‘filename’ in this instance is different it does seem that each of the three hosts I tested the GEQ plugs with, are showing the actual file names GEQ7M and GEQ7S.
When Podium requests the name from the plugin, the same “GEQ-7” string is returned from all three variants.
Puzzling. ❗ That means that the other three hosts are reading something else in the file name or .dll file that Torben has placed there to identify his plugin variants. Somehow Podium is receiving only ‘part’ of the information Torben has made available to be read by a host. 😐
I have emailed Torben with a few questions about this.
Thanks, I am very interested to see what his response is.
THanks for the changes Frits…having looked at this in greater detail I have to say it is very confusing at first sight. I just could not think of what on earth they mean. Really confusing…initially. Not the kind of thing a new user should have to work out at all.
It is definitely the use of words Send and Return (outside of bus description) that is very confusing.
While at some point in future new users may come onboard and laugh out loud at the idea that it is confusing, right now it is a needless complexity IMHO for someone using Podium for the first time. Seriously.
Correct me if I am wrong but in the Devices: lists, bottom area…
An Audio – Output (Send:) is streaming information out of the mixer?
An Audio – Input (Return) is streaming information to the mixer?
FX plugins can Reutrn (stream) information to the mixer and…
FX Plugins can also Send (stream), information out of the mixer as well?
Instruments can only Return (stream) information to the mixer?
Midi inputs Return (stream) information to the mixer?
I think this makes sense, is this correct?
😉

It must be Tracktion that appends the M and S to the plugin name.
That may well be, but ACID and Ableton Live also do this. This suggests that something is different about Podium’s naming process for plugins that share the same name with a slight variation.
Of course you will know far better than me as to why this might be but for now all the other hosts I have tried (Tracktion, Live and ACID) all name the GEQ -7 plugs correctly. 😐

Right click the preset panel header.
Now this is what I am talking about! Instant implementation of feature requests 😆
Sorry Frits it was there all the time… 😳 Great news as I am in the process of creating a large number of presets , however…there are two reasons why I and others have likely missed it which is probably worth you looking into at some point….
a.…if the popup Help button is disabled you will not see the pop up that tells you to right click on the header this leaves you with zero indication that a right click menu is there.
b. The Podium guide has the following info under Using Presets > Creating Plugin Library Presets…
“Library presets are created with the ‘new’ button in the preset panel or with the ‘new program library preset’ and ‘new bank library preset’ commands found in the preset panel menu and track context menu.
Of course the ‘new’ button is simply not there anymore so it may be an idea to update the guide and maybe also add those buttons I suggested as they will make it much more clearer, especially if popup help is disabled.
The Podium guide currently provides no information on right clicking to find preset options, in the most obvious place to to look in the Podium Guide…Creating Plugin Library Presets.
Thanks Frits!
Small but very useful. I agree. The meter does indeed have priority over the track name at the moment when dragging to the left.

EDIT: I spoke too soon. I don’t know how or why it works, but if I go to the Input mapping panel and right click on Midi In, then choose ‘ Auto Assign to focus track’, I can play two different patches from the same vsti on two different tracks.
It does work! A huge time saver! It’s like discovering a new feature 🙂 Maybe adding it as a global option would help find it easier.

For the next release I’m going to add a “Duplicate New Instance” context menu to the device list on the start page. This will make it easier to create additional instances of global plugins, mixer busses etc.
I would still like to see this option in the next release though. It will certainly speed things up. 8)

If the stickie note pops up in your existing projects, then it must be because you created those projects with the new project start page. Just delete the message, save the project, and it no longer pops up the next time you load the project. I considered adding an option in the preferences dialog where you could disable the creation of the stickie note, but as you said, there are more important things to do.
Yes the projects I am having problems with are new projects. 😉
I did try your suggestion but it did not work…however….If you did consider adding an option at least consider implementing it on one of your less busy days… 😆
Cheers. 😉

Neither of those two synths have their presets shown in the preset Librarian
That is a different issue. If there are no programs or only one program in the Podium program list, it means the plugin handles preset browsing internally only, and does not support changing programs through the VST interface. The problem I referred to is when both the plugin editor and Podium displays the program list, and you change the program in the plugin editor.
Ok so judging by what you have just said, these 2 synths have that limitation. Thanks for clearing that up. 😉
@Zynewave wrote:
The message is added as a stickie note to the project object. Just delete the message in the stickie note window when you’re tired of reading it.
Ok 😉 but when the message is visible a simple click on it does not remove it. When you click on the icon it brings up the same message again in a notepad. This then can be deleted.
There are more important things I would like to see in Podium 😉 but if possible please consider an option to remove the message when starting up Podium (a likely source of confusion) and also when accessing an existing project (again likely to cause confusion).
The message has no purpose for existing projects or when starting up Podium if an existing arrangement is already there. A minor hassle at first but a major hassle when switching between a large number of projects. 😉
If you can please consider removing this message where it is clearly not needed. It is of course an essential popup IMHO, to avoid new users wondering what to do next once a new project is created but will likely confuse, if it pops up all the time. 😉

I need to add some code that will listen to preset changes in the plugin, and subsequently assign the corresponding program preset object on the track. I’ll look at this for one of the coming releases.
If it requires some code changes in a future release that’s okay…this does seem to be a wider issue as it also affects the following synths…Imposcar and Kjearhus Spectra maybe others??
Neither of those two synths have their presets shown in the preset Librarian. The code you are considering adding, would it also allow for synths like Spectra and Imposcar to show their presets in the preset Librarian as well as updating the preset mapping on a track when a preset is changed from within a synths GUI?
