    Hello darcyb62.
I hope, you’ll like Podium, it’s very powerful sequencer.

I need to say that I can’t recommend you to buy 0404. I have EMU 0404 soundcard on my system, and I think to sell it. Podium has really good driver information window, and it shows a lot of little ASIO dropouts and silent ASIO driver restarts (with ANY buffer size). It’s not a Podium fault, because I’ve tried to test my system with other soundcards (like M-Audio for example) and the other ASIO soundcards work with Pod without any problems. And every time I install new EMU drivers 0404 works better and better (less ASIO dropouts and restarts since I get 0404), but there’s still a lot of troubles. It’s not only ASIO. Sometimes I play music with foobar (WDM drivres), and suddenly sound becomes noisy and I hear huge dropouts. It’s not a big problem, because I only need to restart song to solve this, but…
So, you can use DSP FX, but if you try to record parameters automation of it, you’ll hear a lot of dropouts (again!). I’ve tried to do that in Tracktion 1 (i’m an owner of NFR version), in enegyXT demo, FLS demo, but no luck for me. Dropouts, droputs, dropouts.

Buy used creamware scope home, if you want DSP FX. Scope Home is not very powerful on DSPs (but there’s no less DSP power than EMU), but it works well.

Thank you, Frits. Podium is the best sequencer with the best support. Absolutely.

Let me add here two other opinions regarding workflow (before I forget it).

Adding new track. We can add new tracks using pencil tool (draw it in the empty part of track inspector area) or using context menu (rightclick + menu item). Why there’s no ability to create new track by doubleclicking with rearrange tool on the empty part of track inspector area, like in other hosts? It’s very useful. Futhermore, if you’ll add an ability to hold mouse on a second click and change a hierarchy of the new channel on the fly, by dragging a shadow of it (like using pencil tool) it will be absolutely great. This way we don’t need to bother, what tool exactly we need to use to add a new channel.
BTW, there’s a following menu items in the “edit” menu of the tracks area: select all events, cut track, copy track, delete track. Maybe it would be good for beginners to add an “add new track” menu item there.

The second thing that bothers me time after time, is that when I split items with scalpel tool, both parts are selected after splitting. Much better to have only right part selected, like in cubase-family programs, because 99% that you need to move only right phantom event, not left.

If anything, double-clicking a track strip should open the track properties dialog.

Yes, double-click on a track opens “properties” dialog, but only in a track inspector area, not in mixer. If you think that it would be inconsistent, I agree with super_crunchy. Context menu item (plus keyboard shortcut like ‘some key’+doubleclick) would be nice.

I like “phantom” too. I think it would be easier to recognize “phantom” than “ghost” word in context menu, for example.

I think that this is a usability thing that is more relevant than the terminology. As the uptake of Podium increases, it will be harder to get a userbase to update their practices, and having non-std key functions will slow the adoption of the app. This is the best time to make those changes, and I’m all for them

    …same for me.

    And me too.

Concerning the copy itself, there is something a little bit disturbing in Podium, certainly due to the use of the same control key for duplicating and resizing : we must press the control key AFTER begin to drag the clip, wheras in other softwares we can press the modifier key BEFORE (like for resizing).

    Agreed!

    @acousmod wrote:

This will mean that the previous use of the control key as a shortcut for drag-resizing events must be abandoned

So, the solution will be NO NEED for a shortcut to resize events like in all other apps ? 😛

If the main tool will be a pencil tool (that can resize events), and there will be a shortcut to rearrange tool, no problem. Just work with pencil tool, and press ‘alt’ (for example) anytime you need to select/move items.Release ‘alt’ button – and here is pencil tool again. That’s my opinion.

    P.S. I don’t use segment tool too.

Yes, really great feature. I think, this is the only one feature I like in FLStudio 😉

I think it’s good to implement this in Podium. Sad that future development list is so big… But it’s worth the wait.

    Thanks duncanparsons!

But the idea is to have an ability to tweak one or two selected parameters of the instrument (or MIDI cc) right in the arrangement window without opening VST GUI. Very useful for live performance, as I said before 😉

Maybe another solution would be to extend the parameters listed in the inspector parameter panel with dials for editing the value. Sort of how the Podium native plugin editor is working. I’ll think about it.

Thank you, Frits. I hope, you’ll find the way to implement this feautre. Any solution wolud be a great help for live performanses with Podium.

You can do that already. You just need to define the proper MIDI parameter objects.

Thanks again, Frits. Looks like I did something wrong, will look at it later, when I’ll be at home 😯

Sounds great. I’m wating for MIDI export too, because it’s the best way to make a collaboration with people that work in other sequencers.
MIDI plugins support and ability to send midi to VST effects would be great too 🙄 😉

No real difference to me, but it’s OK, because I use PIV 2 Ghz and work most often with VSTis, not audiotracks.

So thanks to Frits and super_crunchy for bold-outline icons.

I would guess that these hosts don’t support the ‘sizeWindow’ feature then. As I said, I could get daHornet to expand/collapse correctly in Podium if I disabled this feature. This is a good example of how difficult it can be to support all plugins correctly, due to different interpretations of the VST standard.

Yes, I see. As I said before, this daHornet bug is not a big problem. Thanks for looking into this.
BTW, I’ve recently tried it in energyXT demo and got the same behavoir as in Podium.

I tried it, and it works for me. You just have to drag the mouse a little further to make the value change. The reason for the 0 to 0 value range is explained at the bottom of the Parameter Properties section on this page.

Sorry, this is my fault. But there’s so many features in Podium so I just can’t learn all the Podium guide 😉 Thanks for helping.

super_crunchy’s darker stroke effect looks much better, but maybe not SO dark and not so bold 😉

    Thanks Frits.

Strange, but daHornet works fine for me in other hosts 😕

Anyway, it’s not so terrible to live with this.

Unfortunately, last night I’ve discovered another strange behavoir of the VSTi. I don’t want to create new topic for it.

I use Antti Taurus for the basses (free (donationware). Taurus uses host’s default GUI. When I import taurus.dll in Podium, I can’t tweak the first 4 parameters of the plug (Play Mode, Octave, Decay On and Glide On). I’ve checked out the VST parameters of Taurus in the plugin definition and see that Podium on incomprehensible reason uses “range from 0 to 0” in the “Value definition” for this 4 parameters. Actually, the problem solved – I’ve just edited the “range from” like “0 to 3” or like this and saved the new definition for the Taurus. Now it works alright. But anyway it’s strange because this parameters works fine by default at least in energyXT demo!

Here is the link for Taurus: http://www.smartelectronix.com/~antti/

Yeah, the fullscreen mode is a real killer! 😈 Thanks, Frits.

But don’t you think that tools icons looks a little blurred now? 🙄

BTW, the problem I’ve described here: http://www.zynewave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=628 is still there.
