short answer : NO
i didn’t find a way to use NanoKontrol2 with Podium – according to Frits there is one feature tiny missing in Podium but he was not sure if he could add it …

For controlling the mixer, Podium currently only supports the Mackie MCU and other devices capable of emulating MCU.
not entirely true …
NanoKontrol2 is NOT supported
as of now it’s NOT WORKING …
maybe it will work in the future – maybe not

I don’t know what the system specs are on the machine michi_mak is running, but on my 4 year old quad-core, the couple of extra percentage points of cpu use to support the super smooth and lovely Podium UI is fine by me. 🙂
Me too, no problem running Podium on a 2 year old dual core. A few percentage points extra to drive the smart UI should make very little difference on overall usability.
please read my first post : Podium did not even start playback due to cpu overload but REAPER did play just fine ( and other hosts did so too ) – so the issue is not about some cpu cycles for a nice GUI or not – the point is about resource hogging …

i dont know what version you use of S1 but i can do all those …
would you care to elaborate on how to do this in S1 :
* draw velocities for only selected notes – no brainer in Podium
* alter velocties with keyboard shortcuts – no brainer in Podium
i do admit the routing is a breeze in S1 though
@soundwave wrote:
if it had only the shortcuts from S1 would be fantastic …S1 is the fastest workflow DAW …i suggest to add custom profiles like Pro Tools, S1, Cubase, Ableton, FL …i think would be handy to many that uses 2 DAWs …and if we talk about workflow why not add support for dual monitors …a detachable mixer …or playlist …
while i do agree with the shortcut issue i beg to differ for some features lacking in S1 !!!
eg : select nots and draw different velocities – like a no brainer in Podium – a work around is the best possible in S1 atm and so on …
18% against 2% – playing 1!!!! wav file with 1!!!! vst fx – even the prettiest GUI is no choice with this hogging…
well, to name the plug in : Mokafix Audio BassRider – BUT even without this obvious cpu hog the shoot out still proves Podium to use more cpu for the same task than other hosts …
EDIT : kingtubby provided his/her own shoot out with a different plug in on a different machine and came to the same conclusion …
@Zynewave wrote:
…The most important comparison factor IMO ought to be how many plugin instances you can run simultaneously before the CPU overloads…
this is where i started – as a rather small project overloaded Podium but not the other hosts i tried for comparison …
i ordered a version 2 – will report back in some days – MCU is what you found a protocoll / control surface by Mackie – NanoKontrol 2 can simulate this surface…
you will need a series 2 !!! NanoKontrol 2 supports MCU which in turns is supported Podium…

I wasn’t suggesting that of course – it was just an observation. Anyway, my little test kinda supports your original complaint.
i did understand your point – was ment to be a joke – sorry!
thanx for sharing your findings !
i can’t understand why a host like energyXT ( which does NOT even support multiple cores ) can compete with Podium in this regards…

I did my own little cpu usage test, basically the same as michi_mak – one looped wav with 1 effect, in this case D16 toraverb and the results were:
podium 3.0.1 = 4-5%
energyxt 2.6 = 2-3%
ableton live8 = 2-3%
flstudio 10 = 1-2%update:
Interestingly, I re-ran the test on Podium, then minimized it to the taskbar whilst still playing and the cpu usage dropped from 4-5% to around 1-2%
running a daw minimized to the tray does not help too much, does it?
