Yeah, he knocked this update out the park! Well done Frits.

Frits, I put down XP Pro. However, I will almost certainly switch this year to Win7 64-bit. As soon as I:

    1. Research all of my plugs for 64-bit compatibility
    2. Purchase new components to build a new system.

I’m going to revise the way that track heights are handled in a future update.

And when you do get to this revision, would there be a way to turn off the “squeezing” of the tracks region/arrangement area that occurs when the mixer or editor is opened? It would be nice to have an option that could turn that feature off.

I’d like the bottom window to give the appearance that its just sliding over the top. That way I can still have the topmost tracks still in view while making adjustments in the mixer. As it sits right now, when I open the mixer I adjust the track height for the track I am working on so I can see more clearly the events. Then when I minimize the mixer, the tracks are much taller then I would prefer. So I end up readjusting everything again.

If there is an option in the profile editors to turn this off I could not find it.

I don’t think the algorithm should be state of the art good

I’m not trying to be argumentative at all… But I don’t agree. I’m just saying, personally, I want the best (well, within reason of course). I have Melodyne for the serious stuff but it would be nice to just stretch a clip to fit the tempo and not hear horrible artifacts is all.

Regardless of which avenue is pursued I hope Frits will leave an opening to update it to a better/best algo somewhere down the line once funds permit.

Frits, is zplane one of the alternatives that you have considered? I for one would be willing to throw a bit more do-re-mi in the pot for something like this

Last time I had contact with zplane, they listed an annual license fee of about 3000 US$. That’s a lot of do-re-mi. 😉

I can see your point. With 150 license renewals you would have to charge at least $20 extra just to break even.

But heck, if at least half of the stated registered users users were active here, I’ll bet that each could come up with an extra 20 over the next three months and that would have at least covered your first two years of the license. Obviously that shifts a bit of the burden to you after that period. However, since Podium will be the killer host by then it will have the annual sales to support that number 😛

I had made some tests with real-time adjustments of tempo, but I need to make some modifications to the engine to make it smooth. It probably will come in a future update.

    Fair enough.

    – It seems the “live” color selection on the color picker constantly writes to the hard disk (podium.ini?) – I can even hear it scratching away! 😯

I don’t know about writing to the HD but moving the color selector around created some pretty big spikes in the cpu preformance meters according to the TaskManager. No biggie as long as its not adjusted while playback is going on.

Frits, is zplane one of the alternatives that you have considered? I for one would be willing to throw a bit more do-re-mi in the pot for something like this

    http://www.zplane.de/index.php?page=licensing#lic-licmodels

that would add pitch shifting as well as time-stretching capabilities to Podium.

    And from that page…

    “licensing models

    -annual license fee payment

    -one-time license fee payment

We are also open to discuss royalty-based payments or other options.”

I’ve got a suggestion for the mixer zoom slider: Since it zooms in little steps, like the other zoom sliders too, it’d be nice to be able to use it with the scroll-wheel in the same way.

It would be nice as well if the zoom took things all the way down until you had a narrow strip that was just a pixel or three wider than the fader. This would help accommodate larger projects when the track count is pretty high, you know, a little less scrolling around. Not necessary really, just a suggestion…

    From the OP:
    @Mike G wrote:

    …Uses for splitting MIDI…

1 – You could use it to have one midi input drive many “stacked” synths.

Is it possible in Podium to have the app be aware of which vsti’s/vst’s, (in use on the tracks) output midi and just add that group of instruments to the possible inputs at the track level?

I don’t understand your question. Perhaps you could rephrase it with a bit more detail.

As for the possibility to use one MIDI input to control stacked synths: That can be achieved by assigning the same MIDI input object to each of the synth tracks. You’ll need to use the “assign/copy to track” command by right-clicking the MIDI input in the the inspector input panel. You can also hold the control key while dragging inputs to assign/copy it.

Sorry I should have grabbed a bigger chunk of the quote, my bad.

What I am wondering is whether the midi routing issue could/would/should be handled differently than the audio routing issue. When clicking the “Input” on the track, maybe the currently loaded vsti’s (used in the song) that output midi, could be added as a possible selection. It seems like this wouldn’t necessarily bring the same issues as routing audio.

In the pic below I have Thesys on track 1 and Zebra on track 2. And since Thesys outputs midi it would appear as an option in the midi input box. What do you think?

Indeed it sounds like a great deal. Alas, the gas funds have finally dried up and I have to take a break from these great deals 😥

(for a little while at least)
