    This is the process:
    1. Launch Podium
    2. Screen Left: main Podium screen – New Project
    * Double click new arrangement on the New Project screen to get to New arrangement screen
    3. Screen right: Double click new arrangement to get to New arrangement screen
    * Go to View, select Mixer Only (my edited version).

This is a total of 3 steps to get to what I would refer to as my “default setup”. Am I missing something or is there a better way to do this?

Enable the “link browser navigation” option in the setup menu. That should reduce the 3 steps to only 1 step.

I must confess I don’t really like the name Inspector, but I’ll be damned if I can come up with anything more appropriate :(.

    Track Tools?
    Track Panel?

    …Betty? 🙄

Both Cubase and Logic Audio uses the word “Inspector” for their version of a track properties panel. That makes me think it’s ok to continue using the term Inspector, although I’m open for alternative suggestions 😉

One of the terms I’ve always found confusing is “Editor Profiles”, which actually appears to be more of a “Customise Windows” function than a control to set-up editing functions.

It’s both for the visual layout and the editing behaviour. An editor profile is not linked directly to the window. You can have profiles targeted for the embedded editor in the arrangement editor. You can set up multiple editor profiles that you can switch between using the view menu in the editor window.

I also find it confusing when I open the “Editor Profiles” for “Arrangement”, as an example, and find four identically named entries for “Timeline ruler”, when in fact they’re separate controls for adjusting the Loop Timeline, Marker Timeline, etc. It would be great if you could change this part of the UI to make it simpler.

I’ve just changed this so that you see “Timeline ruler – Loop”, “Timeline ruler – Punch” etc. Coming in release 2.13.

If it’s at all possible, I think it would be great to put all of the UI strings into an external resource file (e.g. XML). This way, people could easily customise them into terms that make sense to them, plus they could be translated into their native language (assuming the UI supports unicode).

Localization and support for Unicode is on the plan for the future.

Yes, I always wondered about the “browser” window; I even now keep opening it thinking that I will get a browser where I can search folders and things!

That was exactly what you got in the first incarnation of the browser window. The project start page was added a long time after that. You can get to the old folder view by clicking the round button at the top right of the start page.

It’s doable, but not something I put a high priority on at the moment. Don’t expect to see it in Podium this year.

podium (2.10) crashes randomly at startup without a detailled windows message. it’s splashscreen -> new project dialog with demo reminder.
is that the specific “random crash” fixed in 2.12?

It could be. I’ve just uploaded the 2.12 demo version. Please give this a try, and let me know if you still get crashes.

    OOohh, bug now fixed 8)

I tried 2.11 on my netbook which has XP, and sure enough I got the crash.

After some experiments it turned out to be a timing related issue, and not related to XP/Vista. It was the popup of the splash screen which caused some code to run on unintialized data. This crash bug may well be the cause for the intermittent crashes reported by aMUSEd. For some reason the code changes in 2.12 caused this bug finally to appear on one of my machines.

    I’ll release 2.12 later tonight.

…though it keeps nagging me to resave my projects

Is that the “The ‘xxx’ project is using an older version of the Podium file format” message on project load, or the plugin crash message?

I have uploaded a “Podium211Exe.zip” with only the exe file and no installer. Please uninstall your previous 2.11, make a clean install of 2.10, and let me know if the Podium211.exe runs without crashing.

I’ll investigate the problem. So far I have not had any crashes on my Vista machine.

Are any of you that have the crash problem running Vista?
Are there any who have successfully installed and run 2.11?

Now, here’s something weird. I decided to reinstall 2.10. Usually I do not uninstall the previous version before installing the next (since it has worked before). This time, I did not uninstall 2.11, and installed 2.10 over the top.

The installer only automatically removes the previous installation if the version number increases. So if you want to go back to older versions, I recommend you uninstall the newer version first.

Finally, I noticed that the .msi installer is around 2mb bigger. May mean nothing, but am saying it just in case it’s relevant.

That’s the updated guide pdf file, which I have created with a higher quality setting for the graphics.

I was using 2.10 this morning (in Aus land anyway!) and now I just installed 2.11 and it crashes on startup. Ouch! 😛

I haven’t gone back to 2.10 to see if it will crash now too, but I doubt it, and I’m busy so I will try it later if this hasn’t been caught and fixed already.

Ouch. I don’t get any crash on my system. Does the main window appear before the crash?

Try deleting your Podium.ini file (make a backup of the file first), and see if this makes Podium start without crashing.

Does it also crash if you disable the plugin multiprocessing option in the Podium preferences?

I am not familiar with the Nebula plugins. Why are you using Nebula 2 Free instead of Nebula 3 Free?
