Yes, easily. I just wanted to record them in the sequencer (like I can do in Cubase).
Would this be possible in Podium – Cubase records them as automation events which can be edited in the sysex editor.
It would be very desirable (at least for a rampant sw1000 / plg user !) because so many of the cards’ deep parameters are only available through sysex.
If you are recording a MIDI input onto a track with one of the SW1000 mappings, then Podium will try to match any incoming MIDI CC, NRPN, SysEx etc. to the parameter objects defined for the SW1000. If a matching parameter is found, then a track will be created with this parameter, and curve sequences will be recorded. If the parameter properties specifies that the parameter should not be recorded as curve sequences, then single parameter events are created on a new track. If a SysEx message is received that was not matched to a parameter, then single stream events will be created on a new track.
Anyway, I have the Yamaha standalone AN editor, which outputs sysex to Yoke 1 (and this is confirmed at the midi out monitor of Midi Ox). This should therefore presumably enter Podium and be passed to the plugstation ?
It is received by Podium, and can be recorded, but it is not echoed thru to the output device. I just revisited my code, and found this comment:
If an instrument is set to ‘local off’ this does not include sysex parameter changes and dumps. Echoing back sysex parameters/dumps will yield unexepected behaviour on the instrument.
I remember trying it with my AN1x, set to local off. I created a MIDI input mapping for the AN1x, which I could use to play softsynths but also play the AN1x when assigned to a track with the AN1x output mapping. The problem was that, even though the device was set to local off, adjusting some parameters with the dials on the front panel would both change the parameter on the synth and send out SysEx. When Podium receives these messages, it would send them back causing the parameter to flicker on the AN1x. I even managed to crash the AN1x in this way. So that is why I disabled SysEx thru. Are there any other way you can set up your MIDI routings so that the AN editor sends directly to the card?
Incidently, I’ve noticed that scrolling in the browser of the project window (on left side) is sometimes a bit erratic – the scroll flickers / oscillates and the list flicks back to the top.
Could you describe how you provoke this behaviour. Are you dragging the slider, clicking the arrow buttons, pressing arrow keys or using mousewheel?
Some bloke called Reg wrote scripts for sw1000 and some plg cards. I’ve imported them as Devices and they work fine !
Excellent. However, importing Cubase scripts will only create generic MIDI controller parameters. It will not create the huge amount of NRPN and SysEx parameters that the SW1000 supports. These 600-700 parameters are entered in the definition file found in the Podium library.

Are you referring to the track inspector listboxes inside the arrangement editor?
Sometimes it lists 2 x 16 channels for Yoke 1 (32 inputs), other times I just get a single Yoke 1 port. Not sure what this means – am I setting the Midi inputs/outputs up correctly ?
If you could email me your project file, I’ll check how you have set up your mappings.
Pressed space bar twice (and num zero twice as well) – cursor just stops then starts again. Doesn’t return to the beginning of the song. Have I missed something ?
Space bar toggles play/stop. Pressing num0 twice will return to start, but you need to engage num-lock to use the numeric keys. Otherwise the num-keys will be used for the standard cursor navigation.
can I import Reg’s Cubase midi patch scripts for the sw1000, AN150, DX150, PF150 and VL150 ?
You can import Cubase patch scripts. What are Reg’s scripts? I assume you have tried the SW1000 definition in the Podium library? You would only need scripts for the additional plug cards.
you just select the midi track for focus and it doesn’t matter what midi channel you send to the track with, it is automatically set to the channel indicated by the sequencer track
Podium can’t do this currently. This has been requested by others, and it is on the plan. For now, either use MIDI channel change on your controller to swap between your MIDI input mappings, or just move the MIDI input mapping by dragging it from track to track.
The way kingtubby describes it, you will get 16 insert instances of sfz. If you want to use one instance of sfz, and play it as a 16 channel multitimbral instrument the procedure is slightly different:
Open the project wizard. In the plugin mappings panel, click the ‘import plugin definition’. Select the ‘rgc audio – sfz (global).pod’ file. This is a device definition file, that is set up with mappings for audio and 16 MIDI channels mappings, and also contains preset and MIDI parameter objects designed for the sfz. If you had a multitimbral plugin that weren’t in the device definition library, you should import it with the ‘import multitimbral plugin’ button.
In your arrangement you put the ‘sfz Output’ mapping on a track that routes the audio. You then put any of the ‘sfz (01)’ … ‘sfz (16)’ mappings on tracks to play on the individual MIDI channels. The MIDI mappings will not route the audio.

Hi ceenda,
One thing though, when I set a marker to 3/4, it gives me 3 bars of 4 quarters?
It probably is the digits in the timeline that is misleading you. The beat numbers are written with a dot before the number and with a slightly smaller font than bar numbers. So the bar/beat labels for 3/4 are: 1 .2 .3 2 .2 .3 3 etc.
Any help appreciated, and great work on an awesome app.
Thanks 🙂 Glad you’re enjoying it.
So, in theory I should be able to have all my plugins loaded without all my ram being used up?
Yes. So it sounds strange that you should run out of RAM during import. I’ll check my code to see if I’m releasing the plugins properly.

The scan will load plugins and immediately unload them. Maybe DR008 doesn’t like to be discarded so quickly 🙂
Actually, ignore that remark. This is what happens when you import the plugin manually as well. I’ll install my old DR008 1.1 demo and check it out.

Hi Martin,
What Windows version are you running, and how much RAM do you have?
What is your VST root folder set to?
Are there any other non-vstplugins dll files in your VST folders?
It always freezes after importing the 2nd plugin, but it’s not always the same one
Do I understand this correctly; Podium always imports the 2 first plugins successfully, but one of the following plugins will fail? What are your 3 first plugins?
Could you try to set the VST root folder to a folder with alternative plugins, and see if the scan process can complete with this?
Tried to start a simple project but can’t seem to set the audio properly to get a sound with a VSTi.
Have you tried following the getting started instructions?
“Error: The map produces audio but there is no parent track mapping that handles the audio”
This is probably because you have a track with a plugin that you have placed at the first group level. Only the master out track should be at the first group level, and all other tracks should be below it in the hierarchy, so that they are feeding into the master out.
Does Podium aspire eventually to rival Cubase in the Midi editing department ?
As long as a certain MIDI editing functionality is a natural extension to the Podium UI, then I will try to implement it. Anything special you have in mind?
Would it be easy to setup device definitions for my plugstation plg cards (AN-150, DX-150, PF-150 and VL-150) ?
All is relative, but figuring out SysEx messages is not something I would call easy. You can see how it is done in Podium on the Parameters page in the guide.
Hi swayzak,
Could Podium be a suitable replacement or alternative for me ?
Good question. I think the MIDI support in Podium is pretty strong, but Podium does not have the plethora of alternative editing possibilites that Cubase may have. If you’re lucky, then Podium may have just what you want.
I would like to be able to record Sysex realtime parameter changes for my Yamaha stuff in the sequencer e.g. via live “knob” twiddling of my Control Freak or using the standalone editor programs for the plg cards (which output Sysex).
This is possible in Podium, but to be able to automate SysEx parameters, you need to have a properly configured device definition imported into your project. Currently there are only a few devices in the Podium library. If you have a synth that there is no device definition for, then any SysEx messages will just be recorded as sysex events, which cannot be modified with curve automation etc.
I see in your sig. that you have a SW1000XG card. I have one too, and in fact I used it as a model for the MIDI support in Podium. There is an extensive device definition for the SW1K in the demo, so perhaps you could try with that for starters.
Does Podium have PDC ?
Yes. Full delay compensation on both inserts and busses, and both for plugins and MIDI/audio compensation on external devices.
Are future midi enhancements likely to be implemented ?
Plenty. Check out the ‘future development’ post in the future forum.
I also see that Rewire is planned – that would also be useful for me.
I still haven’t been able review the Rewire spec, so I have no estimate for when/if this will arrive.
If you have further questions, please ask.
