Hi,
The new integrated List and the future editors regions are the way to a true floating / docking function for all the windows.
I don’t know what is specific to that and if it is possible within the actual architecture’s window of Podium, but it is the way that great companies have followed these last years (Macromedia for example).
The way that it was made inside Sonic Foundry’s products has been for me a model of simplicity and efficiency : any window can be float or docked, and the docked windows can be put side by side or stacked with tabs, all of this only with drag & drops and the control key to make them float.
It’s a dream with two monitors… and hard to make more flexible and easier to use.
I don’t say that Podium must do the same !, but it seems to be the kind of direction that he is going to take, and I’m happy with it 😉
On the PC where you went from 1.31 to 1.30, did you save the project with the 1.31 version?
Yes, but the old and the new ones are OK on the second PC.
You can get the two versions here (I don’t know how to send you a regular email) :
http://acousmodules.free.fr/podium/3Nocturnesd.pod
http://acousmodules.free.fr/podium/3Nocturnesf.pod
I’ve made some new essais today, I don’t think that it is relative to 1.30 or 1.31, perhaps just a coincidence.
But the projects are always shifted on the PC 1 and OK on the 2, with the same hardware (cardbus RME) with the same settings…
There is certainly a little option somewhere ?
oh…
Marvelous !
The things you mention here is on the plan, but I don’t think I will have all of them ready for the end of June.
Thanks, it is all that I wanted to know.
I appreciate much your honesty…
And rtainly don’t want you to stress ! Do what you have to do, it is a very good thing to take the time that is necessary to make them good.
Try to hide the audio events, either by sliding them out the top of the window or by maximizing the mixer region. Does the mixer meters then become more responsive?
Yes.
So turning off the waveform should help ?
Nevertheless, I think that an option to hide the meters will also be useful since multichannel files make very large meters !
I would prefer to see more tracks in the mixer instead of separate meters which most of the time is not necessary.
If you start with an empty curve sequence, the first event created will be a bar event. If you go in and convert this to curve events, then subsequent mixer fader movement will create curve events. This would apply both when playing and when stopped. Good solution?
OK for me !
Thanks.
when we move the slider of an automation parameter (mixer or vst) for setting the values while in pause, the point is always recorded as Bar, even if it is the Line mode which is selected in the curve editor. This is very annoying, especially for volume envelopes…
What do you think about Frits ?
When editing a curve sequence during playback, the parameter value at the play cursor would not always update correctly
Well done !
Thanks.
I think there would still need to be the two sliders to illustrate the two different zoom levels.
Hmmmm, not sure, since the horizontal zoom button actually doesn’t reflect the zoom value ?
But yes, two sliders would be nice, and personnaly I would like that the horizontal zoom slider will have the same behaviour as the vertical one !
Details, details…
then there would have to be two vertical sliders
It’s the way of Steinberg’s Cubase / Nuendo, but it is not a reference…
And what about using the control key (or using the right button) for controling the vertical zoom / amplitude zoom ?
I then implemented the ‘relative’ zoom of each channel to allow that a single channel could be zoomed out for detail editing
which is a great function !
I think that this little discussion has not much interest in most cases because the vertical zoom need appears mainly with multichannel files.
But an amplitude zooming function in the Arrange will be useful for everybody (I suppose so) ?
You’re right, you have to use the Zoom Y tool (hold shift+ctrl). I’ll fix it so that the XY tool also can be used for this.
OK for shift+control, but what do you think about a SIMPLE solution like in the Arrange window : change the height of a channel when the cursor is on the bar that separate the channels, like for the tracks (same purpose = same solution) ?
Concerning the vertical zoom button, it will be more logical (in my opinion) if its behaviour will be the same as for the other windows : zoom of the channels instead of zoom of the amplitude (same tool = same effect).
Perhaps that a key modifier would be fine, for the Sound Editor window AND for the Arrange too :
– vertical zoom button = zoom of the tracks / channels
– control + vertical zoom button = zoom of the amplitude of the audio sequence / audio channels
??
Are you requesting a new mode which will allow free arrangement, but still snap to a fixed grid?
Exact. But it is indeed a VERY small request, just thought about it when working.
Please describe why/when you would want to hide certain object types?
My main purpose is to hide the Device Definition objects when I must modify the Device Mappings, and to hide the Device Mappings when I go to edit the VST Parameters. Since there is a lot of plugins there is a lot of objects too, and the design of the objects is a little confusing for me so I lost myself.
Having the possibility to show only one type of object at a time will be in this case, for me, more efficient.
But it is only a suggestion, don’t spend time on this, there are more important things !
You can toggle the selection of each channel by clicking the channel header
Excellent ! (I might have found it myself…)
You can zoom in on an individual channel by using the zoom-y/zoom-xy tools and click-dragging in the y direction in the channel header.
Hmmm, I don’t find how to do it. When the XY Tool is on the channel header it become a simple arrow with no other function than toggle the channel.
Maybe the ‘save selection as’ should create mono files, or would it be better to have an additional ‘save selection as mono files’ command?
The second solution is definitely the better !
The ‘create mono files’ is good for export for surround encoding of for next import in softwares that doesn’t support multichannel files, which is mostly when exporting a final bounce track.
On the other hand, the ‘save selection as’ will be very useful for using Podium as a multichannel sound editor.
It will be perfect if the save selection could save only the channels which are active / selected…
Thanks !
Sorry, it must be in the thread “Podium Screens”…
I’ve been thinking about putting in an option to show those menu hints in the top of the browser window, to the left of the help button. That way the statusbar can be discarded
It is an excellent idea !
I’ll also think about a way to embed an editor window into the main browser window
It will be very nice, especially in one screen mode.
Perhaps the problem you encountered is if you have created a new project and not yet saved it to disk before importing the sound files?
I suppose so.
The automated search for broken sound file links is on the plan
Nice !
Thanks.
