The big question now is do people want to work within a restricted iPad app environment or would they prefer full PC functionality in a tablet. It’s going to take quite a while for that question to be answered.
Not to me. 😉
NO, I do NOT want to work like that.
I DO prefer full PC, either laptop or desktop.
I see no need or reason to go tablet. None whatsoever.
Interesting find!
Thanks!
I am very curious about the development.

And if so, then you still look like the bad guy unless its a legitimate reason to insult someone.

So it’s time I sign myself out of the “Zynewave Asylum”
Would I take this as you called me crazy?
Would I take it that you are the bad guy then?

As a general philosophical statement, we have to aknowledge we are EXTREMELLY limited in communication on a forum. The simple written words can be interpreted (and often are) in the worst way possible, without even being intented for such a purpose…
Let alone the difficulties for those who do not natively speak english…
On top of everything, at times it seems we want to create conflicts, to see insults and offences where there aren’t any… probably to make us feel alive or something. Why is that? Human nature…? Maybe – still, I think we rather take something negatively, in stead of giving credit to the “offender” and take whatever good we can from it and move on.
Anyway, the discussion is about something else.
Just as Guaranath, I am not a paying customer, but I am delighted to be able to use Podium Free. And I am greatful for that. Whatever improvements I think are needed, is simply because I like Podium so much and I’d like to be able to rely on it fully. I am not too vocal, as I did not pay. But most certainly, I am hopeful that Podium WILL catch up with the rest of DAWs and stay relevant for today’s customers.
Thank you for heads up.
I am not a big user, actually not at all, of Ableton. But I like seeing such give aways, and sometimes they are useful.
Reaper, I must say, is a very serious contender… Not only it is a full-features DAW (by comparison, it has Time-Stretching, Audio-Tuning, MIDI effects, tremendous routing, fantastic optimization for use of CPU, etc.) but is updated often and became more and more on pair with the big boys. SOS has a Reaper column regularly.
Anyway, we obviously still believe in Podium, still want to stick with it and we are all hopeful that finally, Podium will do the extra 8-10 additions (in your oppinion, I’d even say 5 serious ones will do) and then we’ll only have to use it as THE ONLY DAW we’ll ever need.

I would almost agree with you 😉 if there was ONE post of Frits asking this in the last year or so. To my knowledge, all the latest development of Podium was entirely Frits’ decision.
@Infinitoar wrote:
In the end of all this, the direction of Zynewave Podium is up to Frits, NOT US.
Now with that I have to agree, even though I don’t agree – with the policy that is!
I think:
1. User requests were more important some years ago, when probably Frits had more time available or more inclination to keep Podium more updated. Nowadays, due to other commitments probably, not so much time seems to be alocated to this.
2. Whatever updates are released, in my view they are meant to give the feeling of an “frequently updated” software. Not to say they are not useful, but indeed they are less relevant to what the actual users want and they are rather more “cosmetic”…
3. Podium is a simple DAW. This has advantages and disadvantages. This simplicity in use is probably its’ biggest plus, and such a nice, clean and slick interface is wonderful. But I don’t think this really prevents the feature set to be complete, elaborate and relevant.
4. About the simplicity – yes, I also can survive with Podium, as it gives the user the basic features, at ease. Record, add effects, do the volumes, render. All these at great ease and without much fuzz. But, it’s such a pity that many “less basic” but normal for today’s DAWs features are missing. Such a pitty!!!
5. Depending on the artistic needs, Podium is not enough on it self. For me, personally, I will need to stay with Free, as I cannot justify paying the money, as I have to use some other programs too. And this frustrates me immensely, as I’d LOVE being able to only use Podium.
6. The story of Podium is pretty much the story of all software that was designed by talented people (and Frits is, no doubt) and developed almost like a personal challenge. Sooner or later they either disappear, are bought by corporations and often killed, or simply stay at the stage of unmatured hobby work. Podium is more than that for sure, but not by much really.
7. I have great respect and admiration for Frits work. I want to emphasize this on each opportunity, as I think he should know that many of us, if not all, are greatful and privilleged to be able to use his DAW. And this is a sincere statement. IT’S JUST TOO BAD THIS IS NOT QUITE ENOUGH. If I, for instance, will decide at one point that I have to move on, it’s not because I don’t like Podium, but it is because it is keeping me half full, half hungry – and that I hate!!!
8. Looking forward new Podium releases. I am looking forward Time-Streatching feature. Much awaited. Frits NEEDS to do it! And another several more.
9. Yes, why not a list of future updates? Frits, in my experience, having such a list, especially a public one, will help me keep my word and do it. I bet it would do the same to you!
10. 😉
The Classic Pack is pretty much the only VST effect bundle that I carried with me along these years, even though there are plenty of options now. I love them. Too bad Kjaerhus closed down.
Particularly I use the Delay, Chorus and Limiter. Sometimes Compressor too.
Hi guys,
Personally, I do not have a real use for such a in-depth time-stretching dedicated software. My need reffers to the ability to match a loop with the tempo of my song and of course, to be able to fix the little off beat playing, guitar or voice for example. That would be basically what I’d use the Time-stretch for 80% of the time.
That is why I think the implementation of it, natively, is what Podium needs. More to it, I NEED. 😉 And probably many other users.
BTW, UVI Workstation will do this matching of the tempo for loops and gives a very nice drag-and-drop option, but for some reason quite often (not always) the loop is still off beat. But that is another thing.
So, SPEAR to me is not very useful.
All the best,
Adi

Oh and my PreSonus Audiobox comes in later this afternoon! Can’t wait. I’m more concerned about the hardware than the software in it.
🙂 I envy you, I think Studio One is a great piece of software, and while Artist is limiting by not allawing VST plugins, still you’ll have plenty of material, given the Native Instruments and other third party content.
About hardware… I red mostly good reviews. I myself have an E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 with which I am very happy – but if I didn’t, the Audiobox would be my first choice probably. Followed closely by NI Komplete Audio 6 and Steinberg’s CI2.
So, enjoy your new gear. I am sure you’ll be happy with it, and maybe what Podium frustrated you with, Studio One will do better. It does have several features that is still missing from Podium. Whatever will be, enjoy making music!
😉

Truth is, Infinitoar, that both you and me, and of course some others that have not payed for Podium are limited in being very vocal!
I expressed my own frustrations with Podium, but I do aknowlegde I am only blessed to be able to use Podium Free – if I choose to do that. Regardless what it gives me or not – it is FREE. Take it or leave it.
For the licenced users, well, that’s another story. And because it is another story, I also did not payed for Podium yet.
+1
Also, a little volume slider/knob for clicks would be very useful…
All true you said!

But instead, you are going to focus on meaningless features[to me they are meaningless], like time stretching …[and other things]
I wish you were right.
That meaningless feature is very important for me. But it isn;t there, unless I missed something in the last two days.
I feel with you, I really am. And I agree completely about the back-up sistem. I think Frits is working at something, but it does come slow.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the positive words. I will try to upload on Soundcloud, never tried it before. The song is not mine of course, but I will post some other mixes… I am learning.
Cris, yes, I am Romanian. 😉
I just lost a long post due to a stupid internet connection, so I will only say the essence:
Frits knows very well all the basic FR that were reported in the last years, so when his time will allow him to do it, he will do it. I hope sooner than later. Before going wild, there are specific (and major some will say) lacks in Podium, and those will need to be done, to keep Podium up to date to other DAW, as right now it is behind.
Podium FREE is the best Freeware, no doubt.
But Podium, as a paid product, is mission in some areas, and I suppose that is why many people did not stick to it, despite many features that make it unique. People want to see development, action, a future. I also want to grow with my DAW. I don’t want to use Podium AND some other, just because I cannot MIDI effect, or I cannot timestretch, or cannot import a particular loop, or mp3, or all this stuff.
The bottom line is that no matter how many things we ask for, IT IS UP to Frits to implement them. Especially the old and basic ones. As Zynewave does not provide enough business, I understand he cannot dedicate all his time to it. That is why I am waiting, peacefully and hopeful, for wishful thinking to become true!
