Or can you use different bit depths for arrangements in the same project?
The bit resolution you specify in preferences is just the default resolution for new sounds. You can specify different bit format and resolution for each sound. Create a master arrangement and open the properties for the sound on the master bounce track. Set it to 16 bit. Insert a dithering plugin as the topmost effect in the master chain (do not adjust gain after the dithering plugin).
Excellent I’ll try that, thanks!

I’m interested in your opinions on the logo design. Also if any of you have a graphic tool that can trace the .png files in the zip and convert these to .eps files, I would be grateful if you could email the .eps files to me. Or better still, recommend me some freeware utility that can trace and save .eps files.
Hmmm I have Photoshop which I think could do it (.eps files). I have other Adobe apps as well in that ballpark but I am rebuilding the PC I use for Video and Graphics at the moment so I cannot be much help sorry. 🙁

I believe it should be possible to use 3GB with Podium. 4GB or more is only possible with 64-bit applications.
3GB is pretty good. I was hoping it would be at least a bit more than 2GB which seems to be the standard limit for 32 bit applications.
I would certainly be interested in a fully native x64 version of Podium at some point in future.
I can see you but I dont recognise you…sorry:
I installed a 64 bit version of z3ta+ and interestingly Podium scanned it correctly, so it showed up in the devices list but when I clicked on the E button nothing happened. The red indicator did not appear. It was as if I was asking Podium to do something it just did not understand. Clicking the E button kind of resulted in Podium shrugging it’s shoulders 😛
If I could read Podiums mind it might have read something like this…
Podium: “okay you have given me a VST to scan but while I can scan it without any problem I just cannot load it, and what is really strange is that I really have no idea why I cannot load it” 🙁 🙂
I guessed it was probably because it was not a 32 bit version (which I later installed). The 32 bit version was scanned and loaded up with no problem in Podium on x64Vista.
It is quite satisfying to see Podium working so well on Vista 64. Nice work! I wondered if I should really risk it but so far it has been even more responsive on Vista64.
I guess even if Podium was a fully native 64 bit app there would still be limitations to face if the plugs used in it were 32 bit. A fully native 64bit host with 64 bit plugs would be ideal.
I know Sonar has this and maybe Cubase but at some point when Podiums plugin set is wider and /or more x64 compatible plugins like Crunchessor 2 and Vari Saturator are available then perhaps an x64 version will be something to consider maybe.
I appreciate there are other more pressing issues at this time.
A 3GB ram ceiling is pretty good even now 🙂
I think the CPU time indicator is showing less usage in Vista 64 as well compared to Vista 32, maybe because the CPU is now fully utilised in a 64 bit environment.
It’s just so strange to be running Podium on a 64 bit OS. It’s very smooth so far. Great work Frits. 8)

Would be nice to have the ability to add multiple tracks at once, Like in Tracktion. For instance, when using the right-click menu to add “New Track” maybe there could be additional choices for maybe 2,5,10,15 or something like that. And this could exist for adding “child” tracks as well.
Has this been requested already? Doing a quick search of the forum I didn’t come across this request.
Thanks
Derrick
Agreed and it has been mentioned before but of course there is no harm saying it again. 😉

The 2.00 beta is just a zip with the Podium.exe. You should install 1.99 before running the 2.00 beta. I never had to use the “run as administrator” with the Podium installer on Vista.
I brought it up because unless you are 100% sure it is not potentially casuing problems with Podium in one way or another…hosting plugs, crashing e.t.c then fine. But every other application and I mean every other one AFAICT allows me to install them ‘as an administrator’.
This will allow them to install properly by giving them all the rights they need to modify and change the registry. I have had problems in the past with apps that appear to install and run correctly but start having strange problems later on. I just hope Podium does not fall into this category.
I don’t plan to add more features for 2.00. When I said I welcomed suggestions for improvements this was in relation to the track templates.
Ok thats fair enough. 🙂
It’s more than a month since 1.99, and I would like to go back to a more frequent release schedule, so no more new features for 2.00.
I would certainly take more frequent updates over more features delaying a release for too long. I just assumed it would not take more than an extra week for some of the features suggested but yes lets stick to more frequent updates which I of course was and still am keen to have, based on my previous comments on the matter.
With more frequent updates any new features can arrive within a short time anyway but potential buyers can also see more frequent updates which would be better for the perception of Podium. 8)

By the way, a simple Save icon will also be appreciated since it will avoid to have to jump to the keyboard or to the project menu. And it might not be too hard to implement 😉
Yes please 🙂
would have another one : automatic scan of subfolders !
Yes, I know, this is a very old request, but I think that it would be nice to have it together with the new template structure and folder paths (and for all the other reasons too…).
I thought Podium already scanned subfolders, if not then yes that would be useful especially with the other v.2 features….definitely.
@Frits
Forgot this one as well… sorry 😛
Auto copying imported audio or midi files imported into a project folder. Pretty much every host I know of does this. I keep thinking Podium already has this feature for some reason.
I have often run into issues where Podium cannot find a file it was referencing that has since been moved. It can search for it but having to copy every file one imports into the arranger, into a project folder manually can be a major hassle.
A user could be asked with a simple prompt if they want to copy an imported file (midi or audio) into the project folder, perhaps with an option to ‘remember your preference’ or a global set and forget option instead.
Run as Admin issue…
Well the 2.00 beta does allow me to run the installer as an administrator?!?!? So why does 1.99 not allow me to do the same? I am reluctant to install 1.99 if it will cause problems later. Or am I missing something?
Lovely changes in v.2! Fantastic, thanks Frits.
But I have a problem…
I would like to try out the beta but I noticed on Vista I do not have the option to run the installer “…as an Administrator”.
In Vista that process appears to allow an application to properly install (admin rights to access and change the registry e.t.c) and avoid problems running an app even if it appears to have installed properly.
So far that has worked flawlessly for me with 32bit apps (on Vistax86 )and 32 bit and 64bit apps (on Vista x64).
I am trying to install 1.99 on Vista64 (recent upgrade) and every other installer or set up file appears to have the small admin Vista shield on them but the Installer for 1.99 and I am guessing 2.00 does not have this.
Should I still install 1.99 (+ 2.0 to test) or unless I can run the installer (get the right click option to appear that lets me run as an administrator)is it not advisable to try to install them ❓ 🙁
I am going to download v.2 now to see if the installer is different to 1.99 or at least lets me run the installer as an Administrator.
I am trying to remember if your installers needed this on Vista x86.
As for the feature set for v.2
There is only 1 other item I really think is needed and would hope you do add it to v.2….
If I have a crash in Podium all my work is lost. It could be 1 minutes worth or hours. Podium seems to save your work properly only when you exit the application. Even if I save the project in two places with different names I still lose changes in both projects! 🙁
Sometimes a Podium prompt appears describing the problem but either way any changes are lost.
If there is some way to add a save process (autosave or versioning) that can survive a crash it would be easily as important as the current v.2 features. One can have many features but if your work is lost (should the application crash) it can negate many useful features IMO.
Live, ACID, Sonar all provide either a way to recover a crashed project when you start the app up again or… project versioning.
Your feature focus for v.2 has been simply spot on so far, hopefully you will complete the feature set with a more reliable process of keeping projects from being lost please, thanks! 🙂

Local bank assignments on tracks will stay intact.
Nice.
But your question made me realize that I need to check the device definition in the imported project for any library presets, and move these into the current project before deleting the redundant device objects in the imported project.
Yes…better to identify any possible banana skins as early as possible. I am glad the question I asked helped in some way. 🙂
Will the new merge feature also ‘refresh’ the hardware device mappings list as well by removing /replacing the older hardware device mappings in the same way it will do for VST’s? I just have to be 100% sure 🙂
That’s the goal.
If you can pull this off (judging by your past challenges and successes I think you will) it will be a hugely important addition to Podium.
Thanks for looking into it! ➡
@acousmod wrote:
Yes, it seems to be a very good solution !
Thank you very much for all of you have done, are doing, and will do 😛
Totally agree! 🙂
On a side note the Merge Project feature should now extend the functionality of track templates to problem free global status /usage if I am not mistaken as importing an arrangement will now make any track templates in the destination project for a merge, available to any imported arrangements, but without creating two device folders. Great! 🙂
I did not want to sidetrack Acousmods thread and I think it is good for new users to see how the this problem has been solved (it certainly looks like it in P2.00)…
@Zynewave wrote:
The merge command will import the project into the current project and search the current project for mappings that match those in the imported project. If matches are found Podium will delete the device mappings in the imported project and replace the assignments on the tracks with the matched mappings in the current project.
That looks like a sweet solution for automapping problems.
If there are any device mappings in the imported project that is not matched in the current project, these objects will be added to the end of the device list. Thus you won’t end up with two device folders.
Nice!
The merge project command can also be useful if you e.g. have created a new project template with a different plugin layout, and you want that layout propagated to older projects. You could simply create a new project with this template and then merge it with the older project. The result is a project where all arrangements are reassigned with the objects in the template
…this looks like a very nice solution to automapping issues surely… Two questions before the real celebrations begin though 😛 …
Frits…
1.Will all the FX and Vsti preset and bank settings e.t.c also be reassigned to any arrangement after a merge?
2. So I create my new template with my new VST plugin folder layout and additional new plugs with some older ones now removed. I also have changed my hardware so the devices in the new template reflect that.
Will the new merge feature also ‘refresh’ the hardware device mappings list as well by removing /replacing the older hardware device mappings in the same way it will do for VST’s? I just have to be 100% sure 🙂
On the home page 1.99 is described as having “Minor improvements and bug fixes”.
While yes it’s a not a major release but it is still a very important one IMO.
Off to get my 1.99 download…cheers! 🙂
I’ll let you know if the “Move effect” issue returns.
