Lovely idea. This will provide a very significant incentive for new users to try out Podium!

Meanwhile, any comments on the colors and UI? Any parts of the UI that doesn’t make sense?
It actually looks very well laid out. Text is easy to read and the focus appears to be on user friendliness not design only. I agree with Uncle age in that it is definitely a different layout than normal and yes it is a good thing.
I would make an early FR though…well two FR’s heh… 😛
1. Some sort of facility for sample import
2. An Arp
People love toys (FX and VSTi’s) without a doubt they really help sell hosts. Adding this synth to Podium gives it more clout to compete with other hosts in it’s price range. More built in FX (compressor, filter, limiter, delay, chorus, phaser, e.t.c) at some point to go with this VSTi will really help raise Podiums profile even more.
The UI
I really like the curves and the green colour is fine. I think the grey part at the top and the darker colour at the bottom part of the UI work very well as they contrast nicely with the white text. Perhaps a slightly darker top area might be worth considering.
Nice work! 🙂

Very happy to be a paid up member of the Podium community and very impressed by what I see here – particularly the support by the developer and other members of the forum.
Hi there and welcome. 😉

Well the title says it. Some – and it seems not all, as Conquistador is quite happy with Vista – fight with this bloated OS instead of making music.
Hi Klemperer 🙂
He he…well I can only speak of my experience which is very good frankly with Podium on Vista. I hope also the Vista tips , guides and tricks for professional Audio usage e.t.c that I posted in this thread (page 1) can provide a more pleasurable experience for you and other users when using Vista.
Sorry if you did already mention this in your post but if you right click on the installer for an application and choose “Run as Administrator” *before you install it* that should also avoid an issue where an app requests re registration everytime it starts up.
DR008 is a lovely plug but I would have thought as a host Podium can only go so far before it really is the plugin’s fault, especially as the DR008 is a very old plug (with no Vista support yet unless it has recently been added).
I know you are not blaming Podium I am just thinking aloud here 😛 in any case Vista is remarkably capable of supporting XP apps and even some Windows 98 apps based on my experience.
I use an Echo Audio Product and their Vista drivers are excellent.

After looking at this, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is best solved by a minor change in the engine. It’s going to take a few days of work, so I’m about to release 1.98 without this fix, since the 1.98 release is way overdue.
Great, thanks for revisiting this problem! 😀
Maybe. I’m going to revise the automation handling, so hopefully this will result in better realtime response.
Looking forward to it, cheers Frits. 🙂

I have made some changes for the next 1.98 release:
Added “activate power when opening arrangement editor” option to the preferences dialog. This option is on by default.
Excellent thanks.
The power button will pulsate when it is not selected. That should draw attention to it if you forgot to enable it.
Yes that is a clear yet stylish way of doing it. Very nice.
I’m also considering renaming the button from “Monitor” to “Power”. Enabling monitoring is only part of its purpose. “Power” more correctly covers the loading/unloading of plugins.
Agreed.
I think you have addressed the issues raised in this thread really well Frits. I would say that Podium is IMO the easiest host to get started with now. The combination of the excellent project start page (lovely work there) and now the changes you have mentioned here really lower the entry point to ground level.
While a new user is always likely to have questions initially, based on my own experience with a number of major hosts and those with a lower price tag, I really think Podium has to be IMO the easiest host to get to grips with.
It will be even easier for new and even existing users to get up and running now. Brilliant.
To put it into perspective if these features were there when I first started my initial demo of Podium I would have bought it the same day. Really easy to get into and looks great. 🙂
