Arrgh, did you have to call them nipples? 😆
Now I have to change them.

    😆 😆 😆

Frits thanks, as we would say here you are a top bloke! I was laughing myself when I wrote that thinking “…man this is pedantic, I’m gonna get kicked and banned for this!”

In return I’ll keep working my butt off on my preset bank ( …I actually think I just made a pretty convincing trumpet 😯 ).

Would I be right in guessing that all the parameters are pretty much finalised now?

Oh and the latest additions that came in 0.9 are fantastic. I’m lovin this synth. SM issues aside, one can now get some very complex sounds out of this thing.

Now, unless anyone else has had this happen, my best guess is that some key on my keyboard got stuck and I just didn’t realize it or something similar.

Dodgey mouse maybe 😆 I haven’t had anythig like this or similar and I have been reworking a bunch of presets created in the earlier versions as well. Sorry to hear it….

Probably should ask Frits while I’m here. If we want so submit presets for possible inclusion in the release, where would you like us to put them and when by?

I also just spent an hour or so working on presets with no issues 🙂 but I was avoiding swhitching during playback.

My only remaining issue with Nucleum is the nipple on the dial 😛 It is tactile and it works to kind of have some thing to put the mouse on but somehow it just annoys me 😕

Is it too much to ask for a non-nipple version??? Perhaps the line on the dial could go all the way to the centre?

    Frits, Per,

I have had this in Podium as well. I didn’t respond right away becuase I thought the issue may have been dealt with in the updates.

It is not occuring frequently however the most recent occured when I was changing presets via the file/load preset action.

I believe that it is related to playback/sustained notes. That is, if I had turned of ‘Monitoring’, turned it back on and loaded the preset, then the hang would not have occured.

The result is a freeze or ‘lock-up’ in Podium and is usually accompanied by a loud buzz. To date I have not been able to recover from this and am left with the CTRL+ALT+Delete & kill in task manager as my only path back to windows.

I should point out here that I almost always have several instances on Nucleum open/activated at the time.

Also, other plugins had produced similar results in Podium. You wa shock is a classic example for me.

I can get rid of this spike by skipping the check and always call the FM processing, but this will result in a small increase in CPU for patches that doesn’t use FM.

Okay that makes sense. However what would then happen if you were modulating an FM dial on a low setting with a sine wave that effectively swept the FM dial to 0? Perhaps it’s best if I cook up a test for this tonight and see what the results are.

I haven’t noticed this myself. Does it happen during playback, i.e. during a heavy CPU load? Are you changing the parameter via MIDI CC or the mouse?

Midi or mouse? Either I think, and yes always during playback, and, more often than not under load. 🙂

Thx Frits, again can’t wait to try it out.

I’ve been letting this ‘lil tune loop around winamp,…

Thx rinxai. Now working on an airy-trance thing too 🙂

I have two questions about Nucleum performance:

    1. When the synth is idle (podium stopped, default Kinabalu patch), moving the FM dials from 0 to full quickly causes a big spike on the resource meter in the bottom right.

    2. Occaisionally (no specific example sorry) I find that there is a lag on parameter changes where a change, for example to an FM dial, is not heard until another parameter, filter cutoff for example, is changed.

The first dosen’t seem to have any real impact on workflow however the second can be annoying.

Has anyone seen anything like this on their system?

Okay, here it is. This track was made with Podium and Nucleum (ver0.25 and ver0.26).

Everything is Nucleum with the exception of the kick drum and hats for which I used ephonic and Tessla SE.

Have since created a patch for a kick with Nucleum which I am very happy with but couldn’t be bothered working into this track.

    Anyway, have a listen… 🙂

Can anyone recommend some freeware FTP explorers?

I have had a pretty good experience with this one. It is reasonably streamlined and won’t install a miriad of other crap as well. I think it is Vista ready as well but it may pay to double-check.

CoreFTP LE is what you’re after….

    Wicked 8), thanks Frits.

I’m working on an all Podium/Nucleum track (mini track) and will upload in the next day or so.

I’m trully impressed by the spectrum of sounds that one can create with Nucleum. And now it just got better!

Agreed. I have not noticed much if any result on the sound from the shape dials, so if these were to be replaced with Master ADSR or Panning dials as Per Lichtman suggests here, that would perhaps improve the synth.

The Shape dials only affect the LFOs (I think this is right?). So if you are using an LFO to modulate a parameter then you can use the Shape dials to tweak the LFO. Depending on the speed of the LFO, I thought this could have a substantial impact on the sound, especially at the start of a note.

    Frits, can you confirm?

Maybe it is a good idea to post on kvr, asking for input from experienced preset designers?

Yep, great idea …cause all of the presets that I have created to date sound like a cross between the sound I want and an un-tuned tv set 😉

Brilliant fun though, much better than trying for hours to get a synth to do something interesting.

The CC assignments are working great with my BCF2000. I kinda worked out which was which by deduction and trial and error, not too hard but is there anywhere in Podium that I/we can view these?

    Mabe on the VST parameters?

I may look at a MIDI learn feature later on. Something I can do is to set up default MIDI cc’s for all dials. I don’t know if that would be useful to anyone?

Yes that would be useful 🙂 .

    Okay Frits, makes sense.

I’ve been having some fun with Nucleum (this is a great choice of name by the way) and realised that FM synthesis can be a bit-of-a wildcat 😯

I dug up some info on the net from the excellent Synth Secrets series. If anyone has time there’s hours to spend in these pages:

    http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr00/articles/synthsecrets.htm
(Page loads a bit slowly but worth the wait)

The subforum is another good idea. I think I’ll wait until you set that up before pushing on with user patches and tracks. I do think it would be fun to collaborate with all the Podium-ers (Podium-sters?) on a track 🙂

One question though, does it make any difference where things are placed in the mod-matrix (down, across etc.)?

….and of course, will there be midi-learn (nag, nag 😉 )?

errrrmmmmmm….. Podium with bundled instruments ready to go out of the box.

Are we talkin default Podium track/song on opening here? You know ala Reaper, Computer Muzys, Reason and others?

Would Frits tolerate such a thing? Kick it to a new thread or burn the idea at the stake right here?
