hmmmmm …I’ve been thinking and am a bit confused by this.

One side of the argument basically says – When as Frits ever done a less than elegant implementation of a new feature? You know so …let’s hear it!

The other side says – What the? Thomas over at Angular Momentum, as an example, has 15 (or so) SM plugs ready to download for free?!? Thers’s Drums, step sequencers, wave draw etc. etc. so why on earth go over such well-trodden ground?

I guess ultimately I was always happy with Podium being a fine DAW with a “go get your own plugs” ethos, but Frits is obviously having some fun away from the core app and my money is on him to produce a fine set of instruments, what ever format they are developed in.

I know it’s been mentioned but I’d love them to eventually match the Podium GUI that we all respect so much. Imagine those cool podium level dials inplace of the default shiny 80’s home stereo brushed metal knobs!

    ….can’t wait to test.

Since licensing Podium, I have hardly seen a page of porn. 😈

I think that says it all…..

Yeah, nice tip ….again CQSD! The Jimi Hendrix version has a preset list that maps to the albums. So it’s Are you experienced, load up Foxy Lady (Intro) and away you go!

I rekon you’d have to be a hard-arsed cynic for that not to put a smile on your face. 😀

I’m going to change this at some point. After the recent introduction of the track header chain panels it has become more sensible that the tracks retain their heights, as you described.

Errrmmm …I thought this had been changed already!?

    Try this in Compact mode:

Turn on “Tracks Region Properties/Set minimum track height to fit contents”,
Create a new track with a single mapping,
Minimise the track height as much as possible (now will not hide the mapping)
Right-click the track and choose “Set Default Track Height” and,

Presto …track heights will not resize against the mixer window and will ‘grow’ neatly as you add new imputs to the tracks.

    😀 😀 😀

As an alternative to copying the bounced track to a new one, you can:

Right-click the track header for the bounce track,
    Choose Track Properties,
Deselect “Use Track for Audio Bouncing” and select “Output Gain” and or “Output Panning”

The Bounce track will then behave as a normal audio track to which you can apply a Fade envelope to the audio.

Interestingly, you can do the reverse, turning on “Use Track for Audio Bouncing” (only, you can leave pan and gain checked) thus transforming the track back into a bounce track, re-render, convert back to audio as above and the fade envelope will still be there as before.

A bit clunky maybe but it’s really only three clicks of the mouse. Handy for keeping the total number of tracks to a minimum.

    Hey there Frits,

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I did have to read it a couple of times but I’m pretty sure I’m pickin up what you’re layin down 🙂

    Handy stuff to know IMO.

Whilst looking for some info on multi-processing for windows in general I came across this from MS:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256

It is dated 11th October (last edit) so I guess it’s reasonably current. For those interested I have installed the Hot fix and I would have to say that the differences are minimal. This is most probably because I’ve turned off all of the CPU power management settings in the BIOS anyway.

Full throttle all the time for me 8)

Also, in my testing, I did play around with the Process affinity and Process Priority in Task Manager (right-click process in TM) however after testing and follow up reading it appears that this is only really useful for trouble shooting single threaded application on multi-core/processor computers.

Soooo ….the moral of this story is keep the background processes quiet and let Podium do it’s thing.

If I turn up anything interesting I’ll post again here.

BTW: ProcesMon fron SysInternals is probably the best utility for working out what your computer is actually doing when you think it should be doing nothing.

    Again, nice additions Frits.

“Set minimum track height to fit contents”. Works nice …thanks 😀

I am finding that thanks to compact mode, in the early composition / creation stage I only really rely on the track inspector for rapidly auditioning presests.

IMHO having the inspector global is useful as well.

    Thanks again 🙂

    Yeah …brilliant release Frits. 😀

Who else out there has new compositions called Beta_7, Beta_8 …Beta_18?

And I thought I was addicted before 1.95!

    Great addtions!

IMO adding a bounce track halfway up the effect chain and then moving some effects back to below the Bouce (or anywhere in the effect chain) works well. Effect settings are preserved too 🙂

When dragging an effect onto a track (with existing instrument and effects), I noticed that the effect is always placed just above the instrument or at the bottom of the effects chain. I know it is possible to move it afterwards however would it be possible to choose the location in the effect chain when dragging?

Other than that little whinge everything looks solid.

    Thanks Frits,

Perhaps it could be that the ability to ‘lock’ the track height could enble both types of behaviour with the defaut being locked?

That is, you could unlock the track, minimise the mixer and have your unlocked track expand nicely. Lock it again and jumps back into shape.

Just a suggestion, anyway thanks for the response 🙂

I must say that midi-routing options and time-stretching as per CQSD’s post would be pretty high on my (if not everyone’s) list for upcoming updates.

Rewire I could care less about. In fact if Re-birth had shipped with a VST version all though years ago we wouldn’t even be discussing this.
😛 (I just know someone is going to take offence to that!) 😛

    On to Beta 14it is.

    Hey all,

I have tried verison 2 (0.5 or something) and it seems pretty flakey. Menus seem frozen and it crashes out frequently. 😥

So I guess it is a case of stick to version 1.2?

    Hi Frits and Posters,

Fist, really dig the changes comming through. I’ve been tracking the Betas since Beta 7 and am stoked with the changes and new layout. 8)

I wanted to raise a couple of issues that I think affect appearance and work-flow. I accept in advance that these are not really ground-breaking but think that raising this after the release of 1.95 (feels like 2.0 don’t you think?) would be worse.

First, can the background to the Volume/Pan faders and the buttons X,R etc. be left in the default background colour. Minor I know but when you’re using my colour scheme …well, there’s alot of orange.

Second, like the (new) default heights for the automation tracks, could it be possible to have the track ‘windows’ expand automatically to show all VSTxs on the track? (See above pic again)

Third, I note that a default track height can be set for all which is cool however I would like to raise the issue of why the tracks are so expandable (See Pic). Edits are done via the piano roll / list editor / sequence editor anyway right? So couldn’t the tracks start at a sensible minimum (ie. high enough to show mapped plugin and input) and grow automatically to show all plugs on that track as you can drag-n-drop a parameter any where on the track and it will jump nicely into place.

Then I guess the idea is that you build the tracks, roll them up and use the group panel and group menus for changes/access to effects & instruments.

I suppose all of this could be customisable through the ‘Tracks Region Properties’ under ‘view’ in the Inspector but I’m interested to hear anyone’s ideas on the above.

And finally, awesome stuff Frits 😀

Well after a marathon download session I have just finished downloading all of the files.

Anyone attempting to download this stuff would do well to use a download mangager like http://www.freedownloadmanager.org. Almost essential.

Also looks like yellow tools have straightened out the registration process problems mentioned earlier in this thread.

Cool, so, now I can look forward to working out how to use it! Looks awsome, thanks for the post CQSD 🙂
