Don’t be drastic, two weeks ago you loved Podium Free, is just a simple fail (a crash in three hours without saving, probabily provoked by a third party SE plugin) what changed your mind.

I loved Podium for the fact it was somewhat stable on my system. But now that I know I have a random ticking time bomb of course my mind is going to “change” Liquid. Save: Could crash. Load a VST: Could crash. Render a track: Could crash. Am I missing something here? I mind as well say if I don’t do anything it “won’t crash” but then how will I make sure I can make something in the program? 😯 And me working for 3 hours and not saving, yes it was my mistake, but I’m not a “robot”. I won’t remember to save often because of the belief of the program NOT crashing. I mean “yes” I admit to my mistake but come’on Podium isn’t exactly “scott free” either…

Anyway I encourage you test another options.

I’ve already tried my other options. And why is everyone leaping down Reaper’s throat? I was told to “try it out” I didn’t say the program was “better than Podium” jeeeezus. Until my “issue was fixed” someone said try Reaper until it was resolved, if possible. I mean I understand the defense in “Podium’s name” but come’on guys, wow. Pointing out another DAW’s mishaps isn’t going to make my decision of just waiting out to see what problem thc can find any better.[And thc I’m counting on you. 🙂 ]

but an about turn without being willing to let other people help is a bit over the top.

Did ANYONE READ my post fully? Or just skimmed over it? I said basically: “I sent it to thc I’m going to see what he can do.” Meaning I’m hoping he can find a solution if not either I work around it or find a alt program until it can be fixed. *facepalm*

Also, I have read nowhere that Podium Free won’t be updated. My understanding is it will receive most of the updates (especially bug fixes) that the paid version does. It just won’t be updated as soon, that’s all.

I guess you didn’t read most post fully either and just skimmed over it too. *sigh* I KNOW it gets updated just the same as the paid version but I just wish it was updated at the SAME TIME as the paidware version. I’m used to using demo’s of other DAW’s and when a patch comes out then so does a similar patch for the “demo” version. Meaning equal updates on both versions. Sometimes I wonder if people actually sit and read+understand what I mean… 🙄 😕

But how do you know it was Podium that crashed, and not Windows? Or your computer hardware? Or some other software running in the background?

When using a DAW I’ve learned 1ST hand to shut off everything you are NOT using. Anti virus spyware, make sure your volume is defragged, make sure you have a lot of HDD space, no programs connecting to the internet, SHUT OFF any program connecting to the internet, music players, etc etc. I’m using Windows XP 32bit not 64bit, and the VST’s I use barely use any CPU unless it’s DRUMCORE FREE and I usually use that by itself because it takes a bit more CPU than I thought it does.

It is very true however that a person who is serious about keeping their work will save more often than three hours.

I wonder how many ways I have to admit that was my fault for being so excited about creating something in Podium I forgot to save, it crashed I lost the hardwork I made. [yet it seems people are saying the fault is one sided and not ALSO Podium’s fault… 😕 ]

No software is 100% safe. That includes Reaper, by the way!

You guys have something against REAPER or something? Wow…like I said I was told until the issue is fixed[if it can be] maybe I. SHOULD. TRY. REAPER. Please read the capital letters like 50 times just to make sure you all got it, for those who’d like further comment. *sigh*

We’d like to help you and Frits make sure this is resolved. The solution won’t necessarily appear in a day or two, but with a little patience I am sure it can be worked out.

Out of all that it seems someone shown some thought for me admitting my mistake and yet supporting Podium not in a way that it’s not it’s fault also.

For my final say so on this whole THING. I SENT the FILE to “thc”. Whenever he can get to it and see what’s wrong I hope is soon.[Because thc the remix competition ends in Feb 2011 sadly.] For now I will work around it, but it’s a pet peeve I guess you can say. And for any further commenters please READ the WHOLE post before saying anything else that was already CLARIFIED. 🙄 😕

I want to achieve nothing in my post because my post was never meant to achieve anything. But me personally “will not” buy a product that isn’t steady. If and when Podium becomes more steady in the future then yes by all means I will spend $50 for it, but I see it like this:

Spend $50 and get less features than spending $50 on something I can get more out of. [Better example: Buying a car with missing essentials vs buying a full car. For the same price.]

And yes Zynewave/Frits has bills to pay[don’t we all?], but that doesn’t change what business model he’s running. And the way I see it is this:

Frits: I’ll fix/implement whatever I feel is best to fix/implement.
Potential customers/customers: Can you please fix this, or add that, we really need it.
Frits: No. I’ll do it when I feel like it.
Me: o.O How is he getting business again? *scratches head*

In a[sad] way I see what most people have been talking about in “Calling To Awareness” post. But I’m not saying Frits is a evil old man who is just out for the money, but I feel he needs to at least give us something to hope for as far as the untapped potential of a “potentially great” program. And all I really want is less bugs, less crashes, an autosave feature, and more stability. “To me” that isn’t asking for much, maybe it is to you all and Frits, who knows. I don’t care about audio stretching, pitch shifting, tempo change on different tracks, MIDI stuff I don’t even understand, none of that. Just stability. I don’t to want buy a “lemon”.[Yes I used a car term on a program]

So I’m asking YOU this Liquid since you’ve been answering and replying to my posts the most it seems:

Would you buy a $50 unsteady program that would only slow you down in the process of you trying to release content of your own? Or would you invest in a alternative to help keep your dream/progress of creating music at a steady pace?

Allow me say that this is a bit irresponsible, three hours without saving!! I bet that even NASA guys save their work each minute, without waiting to autosave

Comparing NASA to a unfinished DAW is like comparing a Honda Civic to a Lambo in terms of speed. I see no point of what you made there. And yes it’s not Podium responsibility to save every time I want it to but how about WHEN I hit “Ctrl-S” it crashes anyway?[which has happened to me sadly] So I have a ticking time bomb DAW?! o.O And “autosave” is a key essential to work because if a browser can have “restore lost pages”[Google Chrome for example] I do believe Podium has the potential to have the same. But it’s up to Zynewave, not me.

If the regular version get fixed you will get it some day

I can’t wait for “someday”, because “someday” could mean “any day”. As I said I’m learning music as steadily as I can and if Podium is crashing and producing these bugs then how will I learn[in my own way of learning] music if I can’t have a “stable program” to which to learn music IN?

Showing Reaper’s bugs and it has 6 left.

    o.O How is that bad?

And I never said that any DAW didn’t have bugs, hell even Pro Tools has bugs, FL Studio has bugs, etc etc, but I’m saying this: Why should I be teased with the freeware version if it has stuff I can’t have fixed? Why isn’t Zynewave doing like any other DAW company and just releasing the Full Version Demo and the Full Version? The freeware is a neat addition to those who do not have the funds[during this crazy economy and all] to purchase extra things[such as a full version of programs] but fixing the full paid version and then leaving the freeware version in the dark[for a while] is a bit unfair to me. Then again, as I said, I’m not a licensee, so what I believe or wish doesn’t matter because I haven’t contributed anything “money wise” yet. Then again, I “could” be a potential customer to “buy” the full version based upon the support on the freeware version. But I guess no one really thinks about that upon the freeware users, since freeware users don’t really “pay” for anything. Because the way I see it is Freeware users=eventual Paidware users, IF the freeware version shows us that it’s “not so different” from the paid version.[except the certain features that are taken out which I am well aware of and supportive of] Now some may say: “Man Infin, your sounding like a child complaining, wah wah wah, just either send the file or don’t use it, it’s that simple.” Well I’ve sent the file to thc so we will see what the problem is. Until then what I believe Podium’s potential is and what I think it should have to greatly increase it’s usability among all sorts of musical artists, will stand in my mind until I am proven wrong.

Podium has great potential, but Zynewave holds the key to unlock it. But Zynewave don’t hold the key for too long otherwise someone else will have the same key your holding and open the door a lot sooner than you.

    Liquid,

-I can’t thank you enough for your YouTube vids and what you’ve shown me on how to work Podium more fluently.

-I’ve done everything I could possibly think of of taking out this problem, and it’s still there.[So, yes I re-bounced everything, even deleted the project file and of course it made a new one, and yet the problem is still there.]

-This is the hardest, yet best remix I’ve ever created so far, and I’m really proud of it. But just recently last night after 3 or so hours of work, Podium crashed on me when rendering a new track I wanted to bounce. So the “cool” intro was GONE forever, and I now have to remember what I did. And yes it pissed me off to no extent, because Podium doesn’t have a “autosave or backupsave” just in case the program crashes it detects it and asks if you wish to “restore your work”

    thc
    – I’ve decided not to send you the file because even if it is a bug[IF it is] Zynewave will only fix the “paid version” and not the freeware version.[Notice how the freeware version is still on 2.35….]

So sadly I’m moving on. As in looking for another freeware DAW, or paidware. People have been telling me to try Reaper so I guess I’ll give that a shot. Thanks Zynewave for this program and although this program has amazing potential, it’s not working out for me. Crashes, and weird bugs that won’t be equally fixed will not make me a better musician at creating music. It will only slow me down, and frustrate me. I wish you all the luck in your program but you’ve got to try to do something for both the paidware and freeware versions. Something that will not slow people progress.

It’s just a theory of mine but I believe it is true: If you show that the freeware version is just as equal and good as the paidware version WITH equal updates, bug fixes and everything, you WILL get more potential customers who would want to BUY the full version. The freeware version is making a huge example out of your full version and if your freeware version is not as good as the paid version it will only tell people that the paid version is just as bad as the freeware version thus pushing potential customers “away”.

    So wait a minute…

The LICENSED VERSION doesn’t have even a backup/autosave feature?!?!?!

…………wow. The more I learn the less I like. Awesome.

😯 MANTIS! *says it in Snake’s voice* 😆

    @thc
Umm is there a way I can just email the .pod file to you? If so I will be MORE THAN happy to send it to you. 🙂

And thanks everyone for understanding. I still love Podium. *hugs PC, PC purrs* 😛 😆

I don’t really know how to explain it guys, it’s hard for me because Podium has never done this before. Never. It’s quite frustrating because if it’s never done this, then done this in the project I just “made” then it may be a bug, I don’t know. I’m new to how exactly to insert images in a forum and I was thinking of making a YouTube vid, but *sigh*…..I don’t even know what to say…it’s never happened before and it is now. I don’t do any tech things in Podium I just make tracks, remix music and that’s it. Use VST’s…BASICALLY just do normal stuff. I don’t even have a MIDI Keyboard so that also something.

I’ve checked everything, there IS NO AUDIO OR NOTES OR ANYTHING on the Master Track. NONE. Zip, nada, zero, ziltch, ceased, dead, nothing. I JUST discovered you can bounce the “Master Track” with NOTHING on it and yet it copies all the audio done in the project and then it mutes all the other tracks and you have some big “wav like” image/song[just like if you were to bounce a track] on the master track with no actual BARS on it. I’ve unbounced, rebounced, checked overlaying audio, overlaying NOTES,[which wasn’t even necessary] overlaying voxes, EVERYTHING. I tore my remix APART looking for a culprit and nothing going BEYOND 5:30 on my remix, yet it somehow takes a part of the vocals and makes a short silence and then these GHOST vocals come in from the vox track and make the mix end in 5:59, and not 5:30 🙁 And from 5:30 to 5:59 there isn’t anything there! NOTHING is THERE! What gives? There’s nothing there yet vocals are there? And thc how do you find “invisible tracks”?! 😆 They’re invisible so how do you “find them”? I’ve even gone 20 minutes OUTSIDE the remix, highlighting everything and then hitting “delete” and STILL it does that. And I understand there has to be some “incentive” to upgrade but that’s like giving someone a test car with no tires, then saying: Hey after you’ve tested this amazing luxury car with “no tires” try “this same car”, WITH TIRES! I mean maybe I’m sounding a bit overboard here but that’s just how I feel. Doesn’t matter anyway though I’m a free user so “what I get is what I get”. Even if it’s not “up to date”.

But I can work around this, but Zynewave if it means anything to you this is the best remix I’ve ever made in your program, but this “hiccup” concerns me, and although it may push me to buy Podium so I can get “instant upgrades”, it’s also mostly pushing me away from buying it. Because if other DAW companies update both the “nerfed” and final versions of their programs equally yet still get sales, I don’t see why Podium shouldn’t do the same. But this is your program, so whatever you feel is right for it is ultimately up to you.

    Or …look right! 😆

You got that right! I’ve only seen one host that remotely does that but still doesn’t hold anything to Podium 😛 [LMMS ➡ Linux MultiMedia Studio] I’ve grown on Podium and love it to death now. I don’t even USE any other DAW’s to be honest. 8)

I don’t like Grizzly because it POPS audio, even when it’s bounced. But make sure you have the proper version of grizzly because I have used Grizzly in Podium. [although as I said I don’t like it at all]

Yes… you got me and my proj3ct, I’m developing the best nuclear sonic weapon… and it will be called metal podium gear 🙂 Just joking, I’m surprissed that you’re the second person that guess where I get inspired for my name. I just played six years ago (i think) and I liked the name “Liquid”. And I choosed to save to Ocelot 😉

I love the Metal Gear Solid Series and I always watched my older brother play because he makes it seem like watching a movie. I’ve played Metal Gear[on Nintendo], Metal Gear Solid[PlayStation] and a bit of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty[PS2]. Glad to see another MGS Fan. MGS4 was the coolest to me by far. That and MGS2.

Liquid: Come at me Sssnake! 😈
    Solid Snake: Liquiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiddddd!!!!! 😡

Me: 😯 Oh crap it’s gonna be a brutal fight now….

Don’t worry, I just cloned that behavior and I have sounding GSnap on my PC. Expect the video for the next week (I need a double jack cable to be able to record audio from and to my computer). However… it’s the first time I try to make an hiphop beat, don’t expect nothing cool! 😆

I want you to mix as YOU want to. I’m not into hiphop production. I’m into Industrial Electronica Rock. In other words, Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Combrichrist, The Luna Sequence, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Alice DJ, Baby Alice, DJ Tiesto, etc etc. Electronic music. If you think hiphop will suit the tutorial, you can, but as long as you do it in Podium step by step, mix the way YOU want to.

GSnap can do what Melodyne does, not even close. GSnap is like Autotune, but it can harmonize nothing. It just alter the pitch a little. However with the video you will be able to use it in Podium, you’ll see it’s very easy.

Ah ok, I understand. I wonder how much Melodyne costs? *checks website*

Thanks Liquid! And stop messing with the Patriots! 😛

Liquid I was trying to get something to basically be a “freeware version of Melodyne”. I’ve looked at the comments on the forums and one user suggested using GSnap[might have been you I don’t know]as a pitch shifter/correcter. I looked at this video and I wanted to do JUST as he did in PODIUM. But I don’t know HOW! 😥 please help me.

Also I know there not a Melodyne[or anything REALLY CLOSE to it] freeware plugin copy out there, yet. But if there is and I’ve overlooked it, post the link and I’ll check it out.

Thanks Liquid![Every time I see that now, I think of Liquid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid Series. he was one badass “brother” of Solid Snake. 😛 ]
