There is something that is great in Tracktion and in Mulab : you can move a plugin that is in a mixer strip to another mixer strip : just drag and drop it.
In Podium, you have to save a preset in the plugin, delete the plugin in the initial mixer strip, open the plugin in the other mixer strip and then load the saved preset in the plugin.

I have discovered Podium in the news at KVR, but I don’t remember when, it can be several years ago.
If I remember well, I have opened it and found it strange and curious, so I deleted it immediatly.
When I recently saw that a free version was available, again at KVR, I decided to give it another chance.
There are so many incredible free VST plugins, and so few free VST host !
As I did before for Tracktion 1.6 (that Mackie gave for free before the release of Tracktion 2) and for the free version of Mutools Mulab,
I decided to take the time to explore the software.
The result is that Podium Free is by far the best free VST host, and probably one of the best free application you can find on Windows.
I will probably buy it someday, but I wait for a better support of midi controllers and VST midi plugins, and also for a better financial situation.
The fact is that if this free version hasn’t be released, I would never had enought curiosity and courage to try Podium.

I’m new to Podium, so my needs may change in the future, but here is my list :

    1. VST midi plugins support,
    2. Midi controller support (other than Mackie control compatible ones),
    3. Something in the horizontal way in the arrangement window, to insert, move, change size of sections of a song,
    4. A parametrable count-in for the metronome when recording,
    5. A plugin for the voice (correction, harmonizer, etc…).

I don’t see the need of a sampler, there are so many ones, and so many formats.
If you add a sampler, please use the sfz format, and make it capable of loading sf2 files.

OK, thank you for the reply.

I just want to say that Podium is awesome, so a big THANK YOU for this free version !

I don’t know if I will use it as my main DAW because of the lack of VST midi plugins support and midi controller support.

As soon as these features will be in, i’ll buy a licence.

As Podium free is free, those that use this version certainly can’t buy a Mackie or Logic control, nor perhaps a BCF-2000.
But there are sofware applications such as GenMce that can run between your control surface and Podium, and emulate the MCU protocol :
Real midi controler -> mc emulator -> podium.
But then the emulator sends it’s translation to a virtual midi port, and podium use this virtual midi port.
Can this work ? because in the podium guide, it says that podium detects mackie compatible control surface : can a virtual midi port be detected as a valid mackie compatible control surface ? If not, maybe it’s easy to have a button that tell Podium that this virtual midi port is a mackie compatible control surface…
Hmm, do you see what I mean ?

For my knowledge, can someone explain me why mackie compatible control surfaces are listed in the midi-out in Podium ?

About the BCF-2000 : does it work well with Podium ?

OK. Do you know when midi plugins will be supported ? In the plugins preferences, what is “Enable recording of VST plugin MIDI output” for ?

Do you plan to improve the midi controllers support (a tool where we can make and save our own mapping to the Podium functions : transport and mixer) ?

As I am totally new to Podium, here are my first impressions :
    – very nice, neat and customisable GUI,
    – I have searched a long time before figuring out how to add a new external VST to my project,
    – no midi vst support,
    – no midi controller support except MCU,
    – no count-in,
    – no easy way to acces VST plugin presets (it must be in the VST editor window),
    – I have seen nothing to insert bars somewhere in the arrangement,
    – it’s not possible to rearrange the order of the mixer strips directly in the mixer

I have a lot to discover left, some things are still strange for me but Podium is so lovely that I will continue trying it
