I have another question. Is there a way to copy a track with just the effect rack and not the audio-events on it?

Another method that does not involve track templates:

Select the track you want to copy. Select “Track/Clipboard/Copy Track” (Ctrl+C). Select the destination track. Select “Track/Clipboard/Replace Effect Chain” (Ctrl+Shift+V).

But there’s a bug (?) involved, as when you copy the effect chain to a blank track (fader-enabled by default), faders will be at two points in the chain (presuming the fader was set somehere in the pasted effect chain, as it often is).

To even the playing field, I’m pretty sure Cubase doesn’t have “clip fx.” 😈

That’s not a line, that’s a drop shadow from the elevated vertical group bar πŸ˜›

Hello Ron, and welcome to the forum. We generally don’t bite here. πŸ˜‰

I can’t test this since I don’t own any equipment that uses SysEx, but I think it’s worth a shot: If you got as far as seeing the SysEx parameters you created in the MIDI parameter list in the inspector’s parameter tab, open the properties dialog for one of them and check if the value range is defined correctly and whether “record as curve sequence on separate track” is enabled.

If that doesn’t help… Frits is sometimes unavailable on weekends, but if it’s urgent you could try and send him an e-mail anyway.

Yes! While dragging the event to another track, hold shift to lock its position on the timeline.

Haven’t experienced any problems with beta 16 so far.

Just a tiny nitpick: The left side of the selection frame is overlapped by the line separating the “group level strips.” This can, with some color combinations, lead to an optical illusion that it is only 1 pixel wide on this side instead of two.

And an addendum to the follow focus improvement FR: Right now, follow focus works only once. Maybe clicking an already selected track could reset the selection, so the follow focus function would do its work again, without the user having to scroll over manually or having to reset the selection by switching tracks. It’d be quicker to just reselect a track to get it in view again after scrolling away from it (or if the selected track left the screen after expanding groups).

About the automation recording issue: It really only works now if there’s no input assigned. Why did you decide against it working with bypassed inputs, like you suggested at first?

    Another 2.23 bug:
    – In the arrangement view, select the very last track and scroll down until it is only partially visible (best to resize it vertically first). This results in the selection frame and the track background disappearing.

I can’t replicate this with beta15, so hopefully I fixed this in my code cleanup. Let me know if the bug is still there.

Still in there, I’m afraid (beta 15 default setup):

I forgot to mention you have to scroll with the mouse-wheel, which lets you scroll downwards infinitely (which is strange in itself, but I’ll save the discussion for another day.)

Also forgot to include this one in the summarized buglist:
    – Something goes wrong when you create a second master group – input/source selectors appear on the master tracks.
You could assign these things before, even, but I don’t think that’s the point of multiple master groups, is it?

Most of the icons in Podium have issues with dark backgrounds, and so the new mixer options buttons also don’t agree with my dark selection colors.
An exception are the nicely done track select buttons in the rack. I hope that some day, the rest of the icons will be able to follow suit. O:)

The track is silent, because Podium currently mutes record enabled tracks.

As I see it, there are two ways I can fix this issue:

1/ Enable playback of a record enabled track, if there is no input assigned or if the input is bypassed.

2/ Add a new “Automation Record” track option. This will be placed below the “Record” option in the track menu. I would like to avoid having to add another button for this, so perhaps Ctrl+R key shortcut or Ctrl+clicking the R button could toggle this track option. This solution adds the complexity of having another track option with a somewhat hidden access, but on the other hand it will allow automation recording without having to bypass or remove any audio inputs assigned on the track.

    Which solution do people prefer?

Number 1 sounds far easier to manage, in my opinion.

Also useful for less natural effects is to do this with automation.
I like to apply distortion, delay or reverb just to small sections sometimes. But having a different track for those would often result in the tail overlapping with the non-effected sections, when I really want it to cut off abruptly instead. So I just blend in the effect for a short time… Like in the good old days. πŸ˜†

Sonar has this “clip fx” feature too, I believe.

It’s impossible to completely hide the master or return tracks, I’m afraid.
But you can undock them so they’re not always in view. Open the editor profile properties for your dual-mixer profile, select whichever mixer region and open the properties dialog. On the right side set the master to “no docking.”

I was wondering about that – maybe it was just the beta’s not writing it into the setup file… After loading 2.22’s default setup, everything is indeed correctly remembered.

Still, I had some trouble getting the new project window to accept my testing profile. At first, it just ignored the profile I had assigned when I closed Podium (it skipped to the next one). Looks like it does that if the profile is missing either a timeline ruler region or a transport bar…?

Hmm, this doesn’t work well with the editor profile bar at the moment because the mixer resets its scroll position every time you switch profiles. Maybe Frits can do something about that. :-k

Until then, the other way is to do it with screensets:

    1. Create a dual-mixer profile (there’s an example in the 2.20 release video on YouTube, from 0:50 onwards). Remember to uncheck “follow focus track” in both mixers to avoid resetting the scroll position.

    2. Go to the Window menu and choose a different virtual screen. You can, for example, have your normal arrangement workspace on screen 1 (F9) and your new big mixer on screen 2 (F10).

    3. At first, nothing will change after you switched to another virtual screen. Go to the Window menu again and choose “New project window.”

    4. Now you can assign your mixer profile to the duplicate of your workspace that’s in this window. You probably want to full-screen it too.

    5. You can switch between the two virtual screens with your keyboard’s function keys or through the Window menu.

The bad news is that you’ll have to redo a few of those steps every time you open Podium, as it seems the new project window doesn’t remember the profile you assigned it, or that it had been full-screened. Still, this is the best I can think of right now…
Just hang in there – maybe Frits or somebody else has a better answer! πŸ™‚

Addition to the beta 14 buglist:

    – Hide a track (with the H key) while hovering the mouse cursor over the new gain/pan sliders so you see the value popup. After that, there’s a crash when you try to unhide it again, by keyboard or minimize button on the header.

Yeah, I support that request! My post was more of an answer to what UncleAge suspected could happen, which would indeed be quite annoying.

Wouldn’t this mean that if I was working on a bass track and decided I need to adjust the drum fader in the mixer then the bass track would lose focus?

Thankfully adjusting faders does not set change which track has focus! 8)
Neither does clicking on SMR or bypass buttons or opening plug-in editors.
