That’s really nice Frits. I think it is a good improvement on the beta pic shown earlier in the thread – it seems more Podiumesque (Podietry? Podestrian?)
I look fwd to using it very much 🙂
What’s next?

‘Track’ will be more familiar to the majority of newcomers.. however, Podium is sufficiently removed from the reel:reel paradigm that ‘Path’ or ‘Lane’ might be better – since it would be rare to commit automation envelopes to tape [tho’ not unheard of].
For myself ‘Path’ is more indicative of signal flow, tho’ I can see scam’s point about a ‘Lane’ since that is what we see stretching latitudinally across our monitors..
I’d still go with Path at the end of the day (but understand it as a track in my head 😆 )

Looking fwd to seeing what this is like to work with 🙂

I’ve been waiting for MIDI to be transferred across busses as well… I’ve not had that many needs for it, but when I have it’s one of those ‘Come on Frits!’ moments!!!
But as and when it comes isn’t a problem. I realise that there are things that may be higher priority – it’s been mentioned before, and I know it will be worth the wait.

I look fwd to your enhancements Frits. I think the idea of a simplified mirror will help newbies and oldbies alike 🙂

This flow panel will show the signals running from left to right, but still bottom to top.
The left to right part is clear but you said it will still show it from bottom to top…how so?
I can viualise it – think of it as a mirror image of the std work-area. Maybe slightly different graphics, who knows, but it will mean that you see
->out
->fx

rather than
out<-
fx<-

That sounds good..
Must confess.. I installed my first Podium beta about 2 years ago, and made noise within 5 minutes. Maybe it’s just me. I’ve never quite got to grips with what the problem is. I can see that the ‘inverted waterfall’ signal flow isn’t what everyone recognises – having said that, folks use that kind of tree structure everyday with Windows explorer, and have no trouble with that..
Having a different way to visual your work can always help tho.
If this new diagram could have an option to show where busses route to – since these weave around the traditional pod structure. I sometimes lose track of where the feeds and returns are [however, a quick bit of intelligent track renaming often solves that :)]
So there we are!

Just downloading.. sounds very promising 🙂

I’ve been with Podium since the late private beta stage, and, as far as I can tell was the first to get a song public using it (KVR monthly contest Mar 2004: Islands Theme), and was the first paid up customer. It’s come along way since then. 🙂
It has always been top notch. Through the years I’ve used most packages in one form or another (not quite to the extent of suges!), and must say thet Podium is my favourite. I would thoroughly recommend it..

Must confess, I normally do wrap in parent, then alter the parent to being a bounce track. That circumvents the creation of an audio event.
If there was a switch for ‘Create Audio event with Bounce Wrapper Track creation’ that I could switch off, but others could leave on if they wanted, then that would save me about three button clicks.
But it’s not that important to me, since I don’t measure my life in button clicks!

Shows much I experiment! I’ve been quite limioted in how much music I can do at the mo – being employed again means that the only music I can do is at lunchtimes (pretty much). However, my lunchtime VST work is improving, since having an IDE open attracts far less attention than this fantastic app!!

Haven’t tried it yet, just d/ling now…
I’m inclined from what I’ve read to agree with Frits original intention wrt to the ‘B’ button; I’m not sure what s_cr is promoting is entirely right..
Also, unloading plugins is something I don’t do until I know a part is completely finished, otherwise I’m loading/unloading all the time. Being able to switch between rendered audio and the MIDI is very useful for A/Bing whether I prefer latest changes or the original workings… Just my thoughts 🙂
This is an excellent feature, and one I shall be employing alot!

I disagree that the current mousewheel action is useless. When you have a lrage number of tracks it’s very handy.
However, extra functionality could be provided by use of modifier keys..
eg
Just Mouse Wheel – vertical scroll (as now)
Shift Mouse Wheel – horizontal scroll
Ctrl Mouse Wheel – vertical zoom
Ctrl+Shift Mouse Wheel – horizontal zoom.
if playing with the modifiers corrupts other standard functions, then it may be better to have a user definable options for what the mousewheel affects.
Other than that, good topic to bring up 🙂
