    Hey Acusmod

I agree. When I started to use my stylus again, I wonder how I’ve managed to forget how fast and precise I can work with it.

How are your stylus buttons mapped?

Does your Intuos have a ribbon? How old is it? Hmm! *checks Wacom website*

I only regret that I can’t really use the XY zoom because of the inverted horizontal zoom direction (from right to left instead of from left to right). It would be terrific !

Perhaps we could do a feature request for an optional reversal of this?

Thanks Frits and Acusmod, for your interrest in this topic =)

First I though, “hmm… that brushed metal texture is kinda hard to see at first”. But still, I feel you’ve hit the contrast balance spot on. Even though the texture is there, it doesn’t scream for attention and therefore doesn’t dominate the GUI.
Simply said, I like it a lot! Nice touch! How did you make the texture? 🙂

    About the zReverb:
16 individual delay parameters, intriguing! Can hardly wait until I hear what it sounds like and what it can do 😀

I noticed you have all 16 delays numbered, except for the one I can see as “Delay 1”. Instead, you call it “Delay time”. Will this be the internal pre-delay for the entire reverb?

Wish you all a pleasant summer 8)

I just heard the mp3 demo, and I must say.. WHOA! It sounds like a millon dollars! 8)

Yes, please give me control over low frequencies in the reverb. Perhaps even provide control over cutoff frequencies for the two crossover bands as well? GUI-wise, this could be solved by having two parameter knobs on two rows. Name them”DampHigh” and “DampLow” for instance? This is how I “see” it.

The reverb, as it sounds now, has a very nice and warm character.
As a contrast, if attenuation control over low frequencies is provided, very cold sounding atmospheres will be in easy reach too.

For now, I only have two questions:
How do you weight flexibillity against ease of use?
What ranges does the parameters have?

The artifacts you mention.. I like ’em, no kidding! I’m looking forward to using this as a special diffuser effect for wierd ambient sounds using very small room sizes… 😉

Oh, and the clicking noises upon room size change? Negligible!
It even outperforms the RV-7000 in Reason 😮

    Exellent work Frits! 😀
Looking forward to work with this.

I’ve tried the EAS Inspector, it’s nice for checking for clipping and phase correalation.. However, when it comes to frequency analysis, I think it’s simply too unprecise.

I highly recommend you try Fre(a)koscope instead. 😉

Whoa… This looks amazing! I’m sure it will sound like a milliion dollars too! 8)
I agree with both Conquistador and Max.

The only question I have is: Will the LP/BP/HP filters have selectable dB/oct slopes and resonance?

Have’nt had the time to test the 1.53 release yet. Will report as soon as I’ve tested the MIDI-mapping thing you fixed for me 🙂

    Cheers mate!

So what you’re basically doing using frequency modulation to output certain notes? I can’t explain it well, but basically you are playing a note and then the frequency is modulated so fast that it creates an A note or whatever note you want it to create? You know?

No. It’s rapid modulation of a filters (usually 24 dB/oct lowpass) cutoff frequency. This results in a metallic, yet warm sound.
I added you to my MSN contact list. If you have VAZ Modular, I can send you a patch or two that demonstrates this 🙂

One of the things I love about VazMod is that it’s so easy to dive in and experiment with this stuff – in fact I’m going to try it right now

Did you ever try? How did it work out?

Anyone else interrested in a patch? 😛

Last time I tried, was from the browser window, and clicking the “X” in the upper right hand window corner to close Podium directly afterwards.

I do a “File->Save Project” in the browser window,
yet still Podium asks me to save changes when I shut it down. ❓

I assume your nord rack mapping is configured as both MIDI input and output, and your keyboards are mapped as generic MIDI inputs.

    Correct.

When you assign the MIDI input mapping to the nord track, this will override the input functionality of the nord mapping.

This is exactly what’s happening I think.
Yes, the synthesizer has both the input and output midi ports connected to the USB MIDI interface in order to send and recieve control change messages for automation. In this case on in/out-ports 2, while the keyboards are on input port 1 only on the interface.

I’ve always thought that Podium has way too many tools!
As of now, there’s 8 different tools It’s ok to have this many tools, but what really annoys me is that you cannot use just one key modifier to switch between a select & move tool and a draw tool.

From what I’m used to in Reason, is that you start with selecting the select & move tool and just use the Alt key to temporarly select the draw tool. It’s very simple, but it works perfectly. If I want to resize one note, i just click the note and drag the handle that appears at the end. If I want to resize a bunch of notes, I do a drag selection and use the shift key to inverse the selection on the notes i don’t want to affect and drag the handle at the end of one of the selected notes to resize the lenght of every note in the selection.
In Podium, I’m forced to edit the lenght of every note induvidually 🙁

Why is it that we have a segment tool? How useful is segment selections anyway?

I think having a seperate eraser tool is unnessesary when the delete key does the same. Same goes for the pan and zoom tools. They already have keyboard shortcut modifiers assigned to them, which I like by the way.

If you’re going to change tool shortcuts, please do so, but do it now while the userbase still is small. I’m more than willing to adapt.

When it comes to terminology, I would prefer using “linked copy” as the logical choice of words when referring to making copies of sequences that update one another when doing changes. I would also think of it as logical to always make unique copies of sequences by default, and employ a keyboard modifier to demand linked copies.

I am annoyed by the fact that the shift key is used to toggle selection state of events in the editors

I’m not! Reason and Live behaves the same way 😉
Changing it to be more consistent is wise by the way.

Remember, whatever you decide to do, try to follow the K.I.S.S principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid!) 😉

This is not totally unrelated, so I won’t start a new thread.
It’s about a new entry I’ve noticed in the audio manager staus report… PerformanceCounter. It measures something in Hz, but what and how?

For comparison, it shows 598420000 Hz on my dual 600 MHz.
    I’m guessing CPU clock-cycles per second…

This sounds like a perfect solution 8)

I just had an idea for the shortcut customization dialog.
The idea is that you could create shortcut templates for export and import. So, if a user makes a configuration file so that Podium has the same shortcuts as Reason, for instance, another user could then import this file to start using Podium without having to learn many new keyboard shortcuts.
This way, people can continue to use the shortcuts they have become used to in their previous sequencer, making it easier to start using Podium.

Not a high priority for me, but an idea for consideration perhaps? 😉

The definition object should then be selected in the properties of your master output mapping object

That was the part I was missing! Got it working now 😀

Hey Max! How are you doing? Enjoying Podium so far?

I once knew a guy who called himself Max, also from Russia, but his actual name was longer, like “Maxmillian” or something in that direction.

I have to agree with Mart, the community here is very friendly.
Podium is the best sequencer ever, and I love the way it puts you in control of everything with ease. The work Frits has done is simply sublime. 8)
