Hi H-Man, fine thanks, you?
Gosh! i’m impressed with how much i misunderstood!

Yes, I use INSERT a lot too. Perhaps a button on the editor for “Make Unique” or even have CTRL+U work while the editor is open could be a solution as well.
Agreed. This would be a useful command. i think it was suggested previously. The issue raised then was, which phantom copy does Podium “Make Unique”? But if Podium referenced events that are selected on the track timeline, it should be workable.

Errrmmm, no, it’s just that the dots are too small ;( Mostly it’s fine however after a long session I think my concentration & co-ordination wanes a little. I would love bigger dots.
Oh… that’s far less ambitious than the scaling i suggested. :S
Agreed. Sometimes it’s hard to grab the points, or handles, selectively too. i’d add that when points are at minimum and maximum, they are awkward to grab without clicking on, or outside, the window border. Kinda like they’re in a “hard-to-reach corner”.

Hmmm, yep I agree however maybe what I am talking about is actually a bug of sorts. Sometimes when I copy and paste a track from one arrangement to another (I do this quite often), the pasted track seems to SNAP to the height of the visible area on my screen. You can of course shrink this back down with the mouse however from that point on wards, CRTL+SHIFT+ALT+click+mousedrag or even CTRL+SHIFT+mousewheel makes the track jump back to the height of the screen.
Using right-click on track header>Clipboard>Copy Group and Child Tracks then right-click track header>Clipboard>Insert Track, in another arrangement, has no effect on zoom level, or behaviour, for me. i only tried with the clipboard, not the track templates though.

Ability to set Unique copy by default (CTRL + U is a reach issue for me and it’s a pain making edits only to realise that the changes have propagated to other events, tracks or even arrangements).
i’m inclined to agree. Perhaps with re-ordering the functions of CTRL(toggle)+click+dragging. Additionally, a modifier key when hitting INSERT to make unique copies would be useful too.

The ability to resize the control points in the Curves window.
+1 (If you mean scaling time and amplitude of automation)

I would dearly love a shortcut key for the “Set height of all tracks”.
CTRL+SHIFT+click+drag constrains zooming to the vertical axis, centered where your mouse pointer is. You can also make zoom shortcuts, next to the navigator. i like to set one that encompasses the entire arrangement (alternate: double-click navigator). Or a segment on the timeline that excludes a sketch area. The snapshots recall horizontal and vertical zoom level, and position. Activate them with the shortcut SHIFT+1…9
My apologies, Dagabond.
It seems you’d like to have separate channel information; the left and the right. Which is done by the mono send busses. Once it reaches a return bus track, however, the send is only mapped to one channel. ie. The signal outputs to one speaker. If this is in the Left, panning right crossfades to the Right channel, which has no signal.
If you’d like to make a “mono” output, of that single channel, you have to duplicate it in the other channel and halve the overall output. ie. Have an identical signal for each output; the amplitude halving brings the output to the average level of the original.
I’m only just getting my head around this. My recommendation is to use a stereo tool (fx) for these duties. Podium’s split busses are best considered as a way to independently treat output channels. Not, as the name suggests, to remap mono signals to multiple speakers.
I hope this helps 🙂
You can split the stereo signal to two independent channels. In this example:
The following screengrab shows a track’s context menu. In it, is the “Fader” submenu. From which, the position of the fader can be selected.
This can also be set using the “Fader and Meter Grid“, found on mixer tracks.
And sorry, i’m not sure how you control, or compensate for latency in Podium.
Hello Dagabond,
Yes, you can pipe the audio between tracks with Send/Return busses. These can be placed anywhere within the fx chain. Drag fx slots to rearrange their order; or right-click a slot, select a position from the “Move” submenu.
Note: The Send fader has no influence on the track’s signal, other than to scale the send signal.
More than happy to help 🙂
These technical issues can be a brain bender and not at all obvious.
And yes John, midi events on the timeline have time multipliers – using the squares (handles) you mention. Which is effectively “time-stretching” 😉

No resampling? so why when i import a track it stretch it and how to disable it?
Not being one who works with loops, and to explore your statement, i attempted time-stretching in Podium. Without success.
I dragged audio samples (*.wav files) into the arrangement; they weren’t automatically synced to the arrangement’s tempo.
With an audio sample in the arrangement i adjusted the tempo; the audio played back at the same speed.
There is an instance where you may get a discrepancy in sample playback, however. This occurs when your project samplerate and audio file sample rate do not match. Say your audio file was at 96kHz samplerate, and your project is set to 44.1kHz, the audio file will play slower/over a longer duration. The reason being that 96k samples per second is played at the rate of 44.1k samples per second. Analogous to this would be frames on a film reel. Say you filmed 1 second at the rate of 96k frames per second, but your playback equipment worked at 44.1k frames per second, your original 1 second capture would be ≈2.18 seconds long.
You are able to drag a midi file (*.midi, *.mid) from the File Browser, or arrangement objects from the Project Browser. These will be synced with the arrangement tempo.
Also, use the Segment Selection Range to work with chunks within the timeline (Keyboard shortcut J).
There’s no resampling engine in Podium, so time-stretching audio is not supported… yet 🙂
Thanks for the cajoling Pitchaxis 🙂
KVR is a great wiki for audio production. Of course Podium deserves its entry. i was happy to provide a review.
Handy tip! The same applies in GIMP image editor.
Love the picture of Dove Lake, Tasmania, in another of your tutes 🙂
If you’re wondering about a similar ‘layer’ filter in Podium, there is such a helper:

Hi kolylla,
I think you’re looking to utilize Punch Mode (http://zynewave.com/podium-guide/#h.wne9g8ykgvz9).
You can Export to MIDI File from the Note Editor’s File menu. Automation will be saved to MIDI cc assignments.
