I’d prefer the second solution (centering the view around the notes present). However, as much as I would like this, please make it optional. It’s certainly useful to have the view always center around the same octave when you select different events – i.e., for composing four-part harmony (Vierstimmiger Satz – huh? What’s that called in English now…).

Yes, absolutely! You can even copy instruments from one track to another by drag-and-drop. No matter how many times you load the same instrument or effect, they’ll all work independently.

The only situation in which this works a little different is with plug-in device definitions that are somehow interconnected (i.e. side-chaining compressors or multitimbral instruments). You don’t have to worry about it if you don’t use any of those.

Message to Frits, if he’s reading this: I think it’d be nice if you could drop plug-ins/presets/in-/outputs even on minimized tracks (again?). Currently, there needs to be at least 1 px of the chain panel visible to be able to do this.

This looks like a tiny bug in the note editor:

When you start to resize a note with the pencil tool or ALT-click, and then turn off snapping, you’ll be able to increase the note’s duration as expected, but you cannot shorten the note below the selected quantize value.

Try it on a 16th note while selecting a quantize value of 1 bar. The note will first extend, then can’t be resized shorter than this one bar.

No… neither does it matter where exactly I start or stop playback.

It’s like there’s an extra automation point that can’t be edited at bar 1, and stopping always returns the faders to this point’s value (though not visibly, so it would probably be a bug), which would be the default value, I guess.

Should I prepare a video? It’s easy to reproduce, though.

You need to first start dragging the event and only then hold ALT – the Windows shortcut icon will appear next to the cursor, as opposed to the copy icon.
You’re right that holding ALT and then clicking doesn’t work. That is configured to resize events without using the handles at the event’s start and end points (or in the note editor: when you want to resize notes while using the select tool).

When you say loop, you probably mean to repeat an exact pattern. You can do this with so called phantom copies. Either hold the ALT key while dragging an event, or even simpler, select the event and press the INSERT key (above the arrow keys on your keyboard). Just press it as many times as you want to repeat the event – the copies that appear are aligned with the previous event on the timeline.
Phantom copies will have a “+” sign next to their name, and when you change something in either one of them, the change will be reflected in all phantom copies. To make a new unique event out of a phantom copy, right-click it and select Clone from the menu.

There is nothing like phantom copies In Reaper, I believe. On the other hand, the way that looping an event works in Reaper can’t be reproduced in Podium.

I have another question. Is there a way to copy a track with just the effect rack and not the audio-events on it?

Another method that does not involve track templates:

Select the track you want to copy. Select “Track/Clipboard/Copy Track” (Ctrl+C). Select the destination track. Select “Track/Clipboard/Replace Effect Chain” (Ctrl+Shift+V).

But there’s a bug (?) involved, as when you copy the effect chain to a blank track (fader-enabled by default), faders will be at two points in the chain (presuming the fader was set somehere in the pasted effect chain, as it often is).

    Fixed. Thanks.

This works correctly when using the replace command (also with replacing an effect chain with one from a template), but not when inserting an effect chain.

Example: create a new track (fader and meter enabled by default) -> insert an effect chain from a template (the fader and meter are very likely set post-effects in it) -> faders and meters will be set at both post and pre position.

    Hi Carl,

there’s no prompt or warning before deleting something, but there are of course undo and redo buttons. Look for the two buttons right between the File, Track, Edit, View menu buttons and the tool selection buttons! They bear the usual left/right pointing arrow icons for undo/redo that you see in other programs.
As soon as you move your mouse cursor on them, they’ll show a popup describing the action you’ll undo or redo if you click them. Right-click the buttons to open a list of your steps (with timestamps), should you want to go back or forth multiple steps at once.

Remember there are separate undo/redo buttons for the arrangement and the different editors (audio, MIDI, automation) – they all keep their own history, separate from each other.

Hmm, what about people who work with multiple templates… maybe the “import database” button could become a sort of dropdown menu to select a template.
Sure, you can use the ‘old’ way to create a project from a template, but it’d be nice to have them all available like this.

No other suggestions at this time, but some questions:

    – How does it work for plug-ins that have since been removed – does the “update database” function clean them out automatically?

    – Does the update function go by filename only, or will it create additional mappings for plug-ins that are already present, but the user may have created custom mappings for?

    – If the option for importing surround mappings is removed, you’ll have to delete them from the very first plug-in database yourself, no? I hope they won’t reappear, should you use the “update database” function.
Though I guess there’s no need for concern since this change in 2.27: “Using any of the import plugin commands will only create surround mappings for the plugin if there already are other surround mappings in the project.”?

    – Is this going to change anything concerning audio and MIDI device setups, or will the database somehow only story plug-in (and external instrument/effect) mappings?

Swing, if you apply swing, and then move your notes, it’s automaticly snap it. So you lost your swing. Kinda bad thing. Ye, i can always turn snap off, but turning it off and on repeatedly takes lot’s of time.. Moving swing notes on snap on, snap should be ignored.

Not sure what you mean… Moving notes preserves the quantization settings over here. Do you perhaps mean single notes?

Duplicate doesn’t work as it should be. Example, if you have pile of notes and then press insert (duplicate) it’s only duplicate one note. Bug..? eh.. Should fix.´soon.

This is what Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V are for – copying multiple events. You can also hold Ctrl while click-dragging events to create copies, and Alt to create phantom copies.

Also if i have 4 midi clips on the row, then i highlight last one, and then copy paste it, it paste it OVER 1 midi clip. It should move it automaticly next to number 4 midiclip, so the new midiclip is number 5.

This, in turn, is what the INSERT key is for. 😉
Use it to duplicate one event – it will always be added after the original event, and never overlap.

As a FL Studio user i have used to use “best piano roll”, luckily Podium’s pianoroll is good too! However, i am little shocked that i cannot stretch notes on that cursor tool. It can do everything else, but not stretch? Eh, why? I can stretch notes by holding alt, but it is slow..

Zynewave has a tendency to rotate the area of development focus, and will work on one area until it’s pretty much perfect. At the moment, it’s track management’s turn for improval. Please mention it again when the MIDI editor or tool options are on target, and all suggestions will be listened to (though I think you know how it works).
Only Frits himself can tell if there’s any expected time-frame for this.

Sorry… I can’t help but get a feeling of déjà vu.

    Hi Andrea,

if you have a fixed set of plug-ins, and rarely extend or shrink your collection, then this is easy to accomplish:

On the new project creation page (Project menu -> New Project), set everything up as you would normally and check the “Save the created project as a project template” option. You can disable “Create new arrangement” if you prefer to start with an empty project each time.
Let Podium run the scan, then enter a name for your template.

Now, when you want to create a new project, go to the Project menu and choose Project Templates -> New Project -> Your Template!

You’ll only be asked to enter a project name as usual – your list of plug-ins is built from the template, without the need to re-scan.

If you do add or remove plug-ins from your setup on a regular basis, then it’s not as simple, I’m afraid. In this case you might want to voice your opinion in this thread. 😉

Okay, then at least the problem’s not with Podium (as expected). It doesn’t seem to install as a ReWire application even though I made sure to run it standalone the first time. I only have version 8.0.10, since it’s Live Lite, but I would think it features ReWire just like Live Lite 7…

    Thanks for testing!
