Ok I can simplify the point further…

I think you’re talking about something like the Rack feature of Ableton Live, where you can group together effects and save them as a rack file (or so I gather from the info on the Ableton website). I have a simpler goal with track templates. Consider the “track templates” arrangement as a clipboard. To edit it, you just go back to the start page, into the template arrangement, drag stuff around, and then back to your song arrangement. Not much more difficult than if I were to introduce a new track template file panel in the track inspector. Furthermore, track templates will also copy any sounds and sequences on the tracks, so you really need to use the arrangement editor to organize the track templates. A file browser list is not enough.

More complicated to implement or use?

Both, I think. I didn’t fully understand what you wanted to achieve with having separate files, but it sounded complicated. My main purpose with track templates is ease of use, at the expense of some flexibility. Otherwise it would be just as easy to cut/copy/paste tracks from one arrangement to another.

    Perhaps in the future ?

Perhaps. I’m sure you agree that there are hundreds of more important things to do first.

Ok…I think what you mean here is the Arrangements and Sounds List?

    Yes.

could you either split the list horizontally not vertically (otherwise the width will be too narrow) and show the Track templates created on the bottom half of the list?

There is only going to be one template arrangement, and it is named “Track Templates”. This arrangement will contain all the tracks that you “copy to template”.

Editing a track template in another arrangement seems very strange.

You would only need to do that if you want to change the template track after you have used the “copy to template”. Or if you want to reorder the template tracks and put them into sub folders.

Consider the “track templates” arrangement as any other typical arrangement, just with some shortcut menus for copying tracks between the template arrangement and the arrangement you are currently editing. Your suggestions about multiple templates and separate .PTT files are way more complicated than what I try to achieve with track templates.

The possibility to delete them manually in the list window would be perfect.

    That will come later.

Or do I have to manially delete them by going to the specific folder?

    Yes. “My DocumentsZynewave Podium ProjectsLibraryTemplates”.

    Does this include

    1. Sends
    2. Automation

Yes. Any track can be copied to the template arrangement.

An additional arrangement within the current arrangement?

No. The “Track Templates” arrangement will be placed in the main project folder, so you will see the template arrangement in the list on the start page. Here you can enter the arrangement and edit it like any other arrangement.

Trying to visualise this, but is a track arrangement simply the sum of whatever is included in a track template? Actually a track group not an arrangement (terms are a bit confusing)?

    Could you rephrase that ❓

Your Recall Track image shows one choice for FX. Suppose you want to create a track template with several FX mappings?

If you have a chain of tracks with effect plugins that you want to reuse elsewhere, you select the topmost track in the chain, collapse the group, and “Copy to template”. Then the name of the topmost track is shown in the “new track” submenus, and selecting it will insert the entire chain. I’m considering adding a dialog that allows you to enter a name for the track template once you have selected the “copy to template”. This name would then be used in the submenus instead of the name of the topmost track in the chain.

Will it be possible to do that with a selection of files and not only for one selected sound object?

Yes. Just like you can do it currently with broken links to sound files.

But that won’t give the option to import just a selection of Plugins in a newly created project.

Then just start out with the “New project – No plugins” project template, and then use the import plugin command in the device list menu. This is just as fast as if you had the option to do this on the “create new project” page.

Why not use the project template feature for this?

For example: You start by creating a project with all plugins imported. Name the project “New Project – All plugins”, and choose “Save project as template”. Then delete all plugin mappings, name the project “New Project – No plugins”, and “Save project as template”. You now have these two projects as options when you use the “new project” menu.

    And for the sreensets ?

The screensets don’t log info about arrangements either.

My goal is to create a new icon for sound objects that are saved in another file folder than the arrangement folder. The context menu for these sounds will then have a menu for copying/moving the sound files to the arrangement folder. This can be used in your case to move sounds into arrangement sub folders, but can also be used to make local project copies of e.g. drumloops dragged into an arrangement.

If you use these commands for all your sounds in all your arrangements, then the sounds remaining in your project folder should be the orphan sounds, which you then can delete.

will the recalled track be the same in every arrangement? I mean if I use this “template track” in several arrangements, will all these instances use just 1 preset?

You do not “assign” template tracks the same way you assign objects. You can consider template tracks as an organized clipboard. When you create a track from a template, the new track will be unique and there is no connection to the template.

On my notepad I have scribbled down a possible crash-bug in the bouncing, which I haven’t fixed yet. I think I found that it could occur if you tried to bounce record a MIDI channel mapping (no audio) of a global plugin. Maybe this can explain your crashes.

When deleting a parent track, it would be nice if the child track(s) slid back to the left to fill in the gap left by the parent…

This will be implemented as part of the new track template feature:
