Ah I see.
Conquistador: My thoughts on it, if true, would require more reaslim than currently exists, which would be why it makes no impact. I’m not saying it would anyway; but we wouldn’t know yet because there is no sense of power in games for such people, because it’s not real enough. What I meant is maybe once it gets past a certain threshold, it WILL be real enough and then perhaps it might affect such things. It also might not; which would be a shame. I sort of see virtual reality as a potential way to do whatever you want to whatever you want with whatever you want etc., so that you don’t necessarily need to in real life anymore. Naturally there’s danger there too though; sometimes it’s good to do something in reality and gain the consequences, good or bad. But I just hope for a time when people with desires that affect others negatively can get them out of their system in a game that’s realistic enough to give them what they want out of it, so they can control themselves in the real world, having been sated.
Again, this is only theory, and I’m not even convinced it would work either, but I’d be curious to find out. Fortunately, I’m not a homicidal psychopath, but unfortunately, that means I’d have to judge on how others react, instead of knowing for myself. 😛
thcilnnahoj: You raise good points; bad parts are often left out. But if it goes as far as it could, maybe there’d be enough automated calculations that some things would just be able to be done without speciifically programming for it. Still, your point is a good one.
And yes I know of those games; they sickened me when I first learned of them but as I’ve grown a bit more and as I started learning languages and went to live in Japan temporarily, I’ve realised that maybe it has its place, and I doubt many people are psychopathic enough to translate their fantasies to real life. Besides, real people don’t look or act like the terribly meek girls that are over-powered even b y a weakling, so I’m not sure many who play that would take it to real life anyway! 😛 Not that you said anything like that, but just thinking out loud.
I suppose there’s potential good and potential bad with everything, and the scenario I mentioned where people could get out their perversions or persuasions or whatever else in highly realistic simulators might not help them get it out, but make them want to in real life. But then, if it’s all tracked online, then people could see who acts that way online before anyone is hurt, right? So maybe that would help! Hehehe.
You know, in some ways it might be GOOD to get as real as you can, to the point of virtual reality, and then have themed games, so that people might be able to get the thrill of illicit activities, and subsequently trying not to get caught, and power gaming etc. (as seen in many murders, rape, and so forth), in their game. And not in real life. There is debate over whether this would help fuel and encourage people to do it, or give them gratification without harming anyone, but it would certainly be interesting to get involved in a brutal homicide city where you can kill who you want with no real life consequences for any party on any side. I don’t know, but some people who would otherwise let their frustrations out brutally in real life…
Well, it’d be interesting, is all I’m saying. I’ve got quite a few things I’ve wanted to do (from anger!) that I will never in real life, but maybe doing it in a real enough situation would make me realise how much I DON’T want to!
Sorry, bit off tangent there, but your comment “However I am (kind of morbidly) interested in how people and society will react and change to the more and more real depictions of our world.” made me think about it!
Me, I’d like to play Diablo 2 or World of Warcraft (or probably many other games) where I can use my own abilities to some extent, swing a sword my own way, etc. The idea has always fascinated me. But I’d like it to be a bit more enveloping than still looking at a screen. But I think we’re a bit far from a “Matrix”, so… I might never see it. 😛
Good question! I think select all is often thought to mean select all that can be seen, but then again, there will always be someone who wants to select absolutely everything… Different shortcuts? But that seems unnecessary for something that oft won’t be used. Hmm…

Great, this is preferred for me! Thank you for listening!
What about the other actions that automatically occur on install? Are they preventable? Like, if I change which folder Podium installs to, it still creates “[program files]Zynewave”. It always creates a shortcut on the desktop (which is easy to remove, but I’m just listing everything about the install that disagrees with me). If those problems aren’t fixed, then in that case by default when a .pod file is double-clicked on to run it, Podium runs and then the desktop icon, the start menu items (I think), the [program files]Zynewave folder… They are all recreated every time, unless I go into tools->folder options (in an explorer window), then to the file types tab, then to the .pod filetype, click on advanced, click on edit, and then disable “Use DDE”. If I do that, then and only then does running Podium by double-clicking a .pod file not reinstall all these things.
However, mostly I’m glad that it won’t insert a projects folder automatically in My Documents! Thank you very much for this! I hope you can find an installer that gives you more flexibility in future! If I happen to come by anything, I’ll make a post in here.
I’d like it as well. Though, if I needed to I have no problem using different time sigs, since usually I work in 4/4 it might be useful to just use a shuffle/groove instead when I needed such a timing.
I don’t like it automatically being created, no. But if I were to choose it as my folder, then yes I would.
My problem was that everytime I updated Podium, it would disregard my settings and recreate those folders on install. And also, if I double-clicked .pod files, it would recreate all these folders too, unless I disabled the DDE setting in the filetypes settings. I have no problem with Podium creating the folder on first install, if the user allows it, but I don’t want it to keep doing it if I’ve told it to be elsewhere. Ideally, Podium would have a default, which might be how you already have it in current released versions, but if it is changed, and the folder is not found, it will create the folder, but the installer won’t automatically create it; I’d rather Podium itself do it, so that it will only do it based on its own setting. Does that make sense? Sometimes I explain in a difficult way too much. 🙂 I can go completely in-depth (as in, step by step with everything) if you’d like, but not right now (end of semester exams!).
This is wonderful, and was always annoying me (as some here will know!).
One question at this time; I’m confused about what you mean that it will by default use the user’s main documents folder… Do you mean that, without intervention, it will save projects right there, instead of in a Zynewave folder? If so, I don’t think that’s a good idea… But I do like having the choice to not use that folder, and therefore not create it. If I have it wrong, then never mind me, but perhaps explaining it in a different way might help me to understand where I went wrong, if I did.
See more than 4gb, or USE more than 4gb (simplified)? If the operating system is truly 32-bit, then you shouldn’t be able to use more than 4gb, and applications as I understand it shouldn’t be able to use more than 2gb. That may not limit some people (not me either!) but merely being able to see what you really have in your system, but not be able to use it, is sort of pointless as far as I’m concerned.
Though I am but one person, I may be one of many people who, more than usual when Windows is updated, am waiting for Windows 7. I am looking forward to it enough that I’m looking at buying a new computer at the end of the year, complete with Windows 7. I have been slow to move to any newer platform my entire life. Windows XP itself I refused until SP2.
Windows 7 might just change that. I like (more or less) the moves Microsoft have made with it so far; it looks more polished and the open beta and release candidate idea has me convinced it will be a better product for it. Microsoft would have to do something pretty bad (or have had done something and then it come out into public) for me to change my mind currently.
What I’m trying to convey is that I think more people than usual are looking forward to this release, and that may well be the right time to take the newer platforms (in this case, regarding 64-bit) seriously. My new system I plan having 6gb of RAM, or at least 4gb, and so I would need the 64-bit support to get proper use from it. And I feel that it’s getting to the point in time that a large enough portion of Windows users will be doing similar things that it would start becoming standard rather than luxury.
I thought you could just click and drag it out of the group? Or am I thinking of something else? Quite possible, haven’t done much with Podium recently.
I agree with Mike G. But otherwise this is a very welcome addition! Just finally got to check it out in the final. 😉
It’s been great, you pointing out odd bugs here and there, while I’ve been here I don’t think I’ve seen anyone run into quite as many!
Good luck.
Yes you can. If you double click on the measure at the bottom of the screen, you can change it for the whole project (as a starting one), and you can also create temp/measure change events.
In regards to edit windows, perhaps it varies depending on the user? If the user has the windows all laid out on their monitor or dual monitor setup, then they might want the layout to stay intact? And maybe for users like me who use the one window and open only what they need at the time, it looks weird to have an empty window open up? Just my thinking on it.

Btw. I’ve scrapped the “lens” word and now use “zoom range” to describe the zoomed timeline (similar to “loop range”, “punch range”, etc.) and “zoom pane” to describe the sliding/resizable pane in the navigator. Does that make sense?
Sounds good to me! If you’re after one word solutions, then I can’t think of a better one than focus, but if not then zoom range and zoom pane works for me.
Wow, the new timeline sounds like a great idea, and I wish I’d thought to suggest it! I’ve never liked the typical scrollbar approach but had only ever seen that way to do it and never thought how to change it…
But that means I could retain my zoom level (which I hate changinng in and out, most of the time) but still travel through the track! Unless, I guess, if it’s 20 minutes long or something with lots of small events… But never mind that!
Also, instead of “lense”, maybe “focus”? Not only that, and people may disagree with me, but I thought it odd when you spelled it “lense”. I believe common usage of that word these days, in many English speaking countries (so, not just the U.S. ;)) is “lens”. I’m not sure, but I don’t think Australia does, and I don’t even think England does! Or perhaps, different spellings are used fo… ah, never mind that, anyway, I think most people would spell it as “lens”, was my point! Anyone disagree?
It does seem a strange word to use though, but I can’t think of another (other than “focus”, as I said), but if I think of more, I’ll post.
