I’ve had a similar problem reported by another tester. Have you been able to bounce record with previous versions of Podium without problems? Could you create a report in the interfaces dialog and mail it to me?

Ouch, that is a lot of issues . Most of your problems are not known to me, so I need more details to be able to fix them. Could you go to the Interfaces dialog, create a report and mail it to me?

one of them being very (to ridiculously) high CPU consumption (with some VSTis like CUBE)

How big a difference in percentage compared to other hosts? Does this high CPU usage decrease noticeably if you set a bigger buffer size?

second, recording is way off (or doesn’t record half the notes at all) with whatever midi interface I use

What MIDI interfaces are you using? Some MIDI interface drivers does not add a correct time stamp to incoming MIDI events. Try to check the ‘Ignore time stamps from driver’ for each MIDI input in the interfaces dialog. If this is the case with your MIDI interfaces, then this can explain your hanging notes issues as well.

    third, hanging notes

    How?

removing a track switches of other tracks or disconnects mapping of other synths

Switches off, as in tracks get visually muted? or is it just in the audio you notice this?

    tracks don’t show completely

Do you mean the information shown in the track headers?

have to choose midi interface twice sometimes to make it work

In the interfaces dialog? What do you mean choose twice; do you have to exit the interfaces dialog and reenter it?

Tracktion has a button to lengthen the time it takes for tooltips to pop up so that you can make them less annoying once you get the hang of things. I found it worked pretty well for me. I have seen other programs that let you set how many milliseconds until they pop up.

Hmm, actually I’m often annoyed by delayed popups. When I work with a new program I want tooltips to appear instantly (because I’m scanning along the buttons to learn the program), or I don’t want them to appear at all. I prefer to have a button easily available that can turn popups on/off.

The reasoning behind delayed popups; “because a user has kept the mouse over this button for a number of milliseconds, it must be because he wants to be reminded of what this button can do” does not appeal to me. This can be a very stressing experience for a user, knowing that his/her actions in the UI are being timed.

To me this definitely sounds like a job for a plugin 😉

I think I’ll go add MIDI plugin support to the plan.

Undo/Redo hints are good.. could they be made to list, say, the last 4 or 5 actions?

    Added to the plan.

I’ve having a problem with a plug crashing Podium with an AV. It’s a beta plug (called Nubi…

I’ve just sent a mail to inquire about the Nubi beta.

Any timescale on default GUI’s? (I’ve checked future.htm)

I have now moved it up on the scheduled plan. I cannot promise when it will be done, but hopefully in a month or so.

I think what you are asking for is en essence what bounce recording is all about. At any point in the track tree you can insert a bounce track that will record whatever audio is streaming through that track. As a minimum the master out track should be a bounce track, so that you can record a final mix of your song.

Currently all recording must be done in real-time playback. Offline or background bouncing of plugin tracks are on the plan.

    Hi Martin,

You should enter the actual words betatester/beta. Maybe you tried using your forum name and password? Anyway, I have just removed the password protection. The only reason I originally added the authorization was to make sure people understood that it was a beta-version they were downloading.

Beat-slicing is already on the plan. I’ve now added more simple edit functions like fade-in, fade-out to the plan.

Editing sounds in Podium are handled a little differently than some other hosts. Any destructive edits to the waveform are not performed on the original wave file. Even recording into a sound is not stored in the wave file initially. All modifications are stored in temporary cache files. Only when you select to save any changes to a sound will the wave file be written to. So if you make modifications to a sound and you want to preserve the original, you should select the ‘save as’ menu for the sound object. When afterwards saving the project, the name of the new wave file will be used as reference in the project.

A couple of years ago I considered making the Podium project file format as a database which could embed wave files. I decided against this as I found there were too many drawbacks to this approach.

As for samples, what are your feelings about adding an audition/browser type of thing? And maybe more control over samples, ie; more editiing features?

For the time being I will recommend you use a third party media browser (or just the Windows file explorer) to audition samples, and then drag the files onto Podium.

If you have any ideas for more sample editing features then post your suggestions in the Future forum.

btw. 0.93 has been released, so let’s not keep this 0.92 topic alive too long, ok? 😉

    Regarding SamplerChan:

I have just tried the demo and it seems to fail when trying to draw the embedded file explorer. It does not crash Podium, nor does it cause an exception that Podium otherwise would catch, so it must do something internally that goes wrong. I cannot catch the bug when debugging, so I don’t want to put more effort into this at the moment. Especially since this is a discontinued plugin.

ok done with bouncing (so easy)

    Great 🙂

i tried to desinstall podium and reinstall but it was not reset and i didn’t find any .ini file

Reinstalling will not overwrite your setup file, otherwise your soundcard setup etc. would be reset when installing new versions. To reset the setup to defaults use the ‘Load default setup’ setup menu. After this you need to reconfigure your MIDI and audio setup.

If you have not read it already, then check this page in the guide:

    Recording

The freebees demo project is prepared for bounce recording. The wave files are initially empty (to minimize download size of Podium installer) so you have to bounce record to create the wave files. Assuming that you have the plugins installed; enter into one of the songs. Turn off looping and switch on the record button. The tracks containing the bounce audio events should be red now. Start playback. The audio should now be rendered into the audio events as playback progresses.

Once you have recorded the entire song, switch off the ‘R’ (record enable) track buttons for the bounce tracks. This will enable the bounced audio and the plugins will become inactive. You can then use the ‘B’ (bounce) track button to switch between listening to the bounced audio or reactivate the plugin output.

I would like to be able to point to where I want to paste an event or sequence of events on the seuqencer, right click, and have it past right where I am pointing. Currently, right click paste doesn’t work unless I am pointing at an event already there, and then it pastes it over top. Not a big deal, but I would find it easier.

A paste or insert will be placed at the start of a segment selection, and if no segment is selected, then at the current cursor position. I’ll add a ‘Insert here’ kind of menu to the future plan.

Already on the plan is support for MIDI output for VST plugins (e.g. Groove Agent note patterns). Once this is done then VST plugins could actually be used as pure MIDI plugins. It’s been a couple of years since I last browsed the MFX documentation so I may look into this again at some point.
