Thanks for feedabck.
First of all I was thinking I wanted an internal sampler. And that podium needed one to give that complete out of the box experience for new hobbiest users.
There are loads of samplers already out there (shortcircuit)
Problem is you have to learn the sampler as well as the DAW. (And they work very differently)
Also there is lots of stuff for playing samples is already in the DAW.
Boundary between vst instrument and daw is in my opinion an issue, frits has overcome this a bit with making his own zynewave vsts give extra intergration into podium.
I think if frits ever decided he needed to make a simple sampler then this is worth considering.
I expected that for a beginner this option would be best and I think would be quicker to develop than fritz writing his own sampler vst.
Question: Do many people use samples in audio tracks for drums, I don’t personally becuase I try and do live drums and I like the flexibility to alter the sample/sound after playing the part.
I was under the impression lots of dance music people use wav files direct in in audio tracks. (Based on seeing interviews/videos in CM mag)
I do however completely agree that this is not urgent.
Just had the idea so I needed to set it free!
You can do all those changes in Editor Profiles. I did.
Thanks i know about that.
Thing is…
-I would need to keep making the change everytime a new tweak to layout of podium happens and I run “reload setup”.
-Just thought the default setup could make better use of space.
THinking about it I think it would make more logical sense (to me) for these buttons to be immediately after the view menu.
I like the new editor profile buttons, (toolbar is very convenient, i never used the old menu items but these are quicker to click on)
…but would prefer on same line as transport buttons, or even at the top somewhere. currently seems to waste a lot of valuable screen real estate.
also would prefer transport left aligned.
Hi,
Quick question.
I’m planning on installing windows 7 64 bit. (soonish)
I checked and my audio device has 64 bit driver support.
Is there any disadvantage to 64 bit that anyone knows of? (Will some plug-ins not work etc.)
Thanks,
Mike G
Regarding signal flow…
I think the “Arrows” show the signal flow, they are not quite arrows more like triangles poking out of the tracks.
Maybe this could be emphasised?
Maybe by actually drawing a line with arrows to show signal flow… or something like that?
edit: sorry thcilnnahoj just realised you already said this
Nice.
Thanks for the heads up.
OK lets refine the previous post down to the following:
“Quantise a bit” feature request…
A – Quantise above threshold (only move hits that are out of time
by more than a certain amount)
B – quantise by % (move notes closer to the grid but not all the
way i.e. Just de-emphaises the errors but not totally kill the
swing/feel)
Anyone else want/need this kind of feature?
Any plans fritz?
Cheers,
Mike
(Previous post was admittedly far too long and too specific to my own ineptitude with drums )
I’ve previously only ever used expanded view so I have a question about “compact” view.
-I add a new track called “Group 1”
-Then set “Use as Group Track” = Yes
-I want to drag an existing track into that group but I can’t
-Only way I can do it is by right-clicking and selecting the menu item “Move Track” “To Group” “Group 1”
Strange thing is once I’ve added one track I can drag other tracks on to the group.
Is that the expected behaviour?
I would have expected to be able to drag child tracks onto a group track.
Other than that I’m finding the “New” (new for me at least) compact view to be a lot less confusing when dragging.
By allowing less places to drag things it makes it easier to do the right thing!
Thanks,
Mike G
(NOTE: Still using 2.19)
Couple of other minor suggestions:
1-When click on midi note or drum editor window (popup or embedded) is would be nice if the display auto scrolled down to make as many notes in view as possible or at least move so highest note in sequence is at the top.
2-With new timeline it’s not as easy to scroll to the right, past the end of the arrangement. (Was easier with scroll bar also present due to beind able to zoom out past full width of tracks and also being able to click > arrow)
Thanks.
Oh yeah didn’t think about the newbs messing up the profiles!! (i’ve messed up my own several times!)
Maybe also need to make sure there is an easy to find “Restore default” setting. (Is that “load default setup”? I can’t remember…, maybe have that option on each properties window too)
Also maybe a better caption for this stuff like “Editor Customisation” or just plain “Customise” (I think Customise (or Customize if you like the american spelling!) is a more intuitive word than profile…
Ohh how easy it is for us to sit here and make more work for you Fritz!!
Simple (I assume) idea to increase discoverability of podiums extensive customisation..
On right click menus for screen obects, include “Editor Profile Properties” shortcut.
E.g. Current items on timeline right click menu:
I have an organised startup menu!
Podium lives in Music sub menu, i have removed the version no from this shortcut and I never update it, i just delete the new menu items created by the installer.
Could create menu items be an option when installing or be ignored when upgrading or something. Maybe have an option that just “copies the exe” called “upgrade”, (you’d have to remove the version nos from all start menu shortcuts.)
I personally don’t have that much of an issue withg this it’s so minor and wouldn’t have bothered mentioning it except … you asked for suggestions!
Oh and another very, very minor thing the small version of the start menu icon isn’t as nice as the newer large podium icon, could you fix this too?
Cheers,
Mike G
Just been trying on windows 7 rc. (Dual boot on same machine I use to run vista)
I can run at lower latencies than when in vista and even without turning off all the graphics features!
Not done much with it so far, as vista is still my main machine and not got much spare time at the moment.. but it’s looking good.
