    Bug report for multitake.
Used 2.08 and 2.09 beta7 both have this issue:

NOTE: For newly created project it works fine. This only doesn’t work for projects created from my project template. I have reloaded default setup and still doesn’t work for any project I create from my template.

    Set preferences to:
    max takes =3
    delete oldest takes=True
    Use timestamp as name=False

1 – When record a comp track for 1st time it will not auto delete the 1st recorded take, just keeps overwriting the 2nd and 3rd takes.

2 – When start again recording (when have all 3 takes already filled up),
will then delete 1st take but will only create 1 new take after that.

3 – Not sure if this is a bug or “feature”… When have existing takes recorded and then start to record a new take, the new take is not auto selected as the active take in the main comp track. Is this just so you don’t overwrite any existing “comping” cross fades that you’ve been doing etc. I can get it to make new takes the active ones by deletiung the audio file in the main track.
NOTE: Sometimes seems to delete old take but works better in newly creted from scratch projects than in those from templates!

Shall I email my project template file?

    Thanks,
    Mike G

Idea for slight mod in future:
Could it be possible to right click the take track and select it as the active take (might be more intuitive for beginners) that clicking in the main compiste track’s bar (Which is Invisible till you hover over it with mouse!)
I know it might be ambiguous which part of the take you wanted to use so not sure about this.
    Thanks,

If I was going to try and update something (just so I can see how long it takes me!), where should I start?

Looking at existing topics and seeing if new options/features have appeared on those screens.

Or working through the recent releases?

    Thanks,

1 – Hmmm. If “popup” help is now moving into a fixed window, how about adding links from the bottom of “popup” help entries to one or more relevant main help topics on the internet wiki help?

2 – Also I hope the popup help boxes that you suggested fritz will not callapse away like the existing panels in the inspector and/or list box. i.e. I hope I can still see the help even when I’ve got the device panel picked in the inspector (Hope that makes sense)

3 – How does anyone else feel about the podium community doing some updates to the help docs.
I’ve not played with it as yet but am I right in saying members can edit the wiki help?
I could probably spare up to a day for doing some updates to it.
We could do the bulk of the work and fritz could just review/edit/polish it. I was thinking save his time so he can write more code and give us more features! (If you’re anything like me fritz, also a software dev, you prefer to write code than document it!)
Fritz could make a list of items needing updates and we could take a piece and update it or something like that…

    Thanks,
    Mike G

It did seem to be a bit random when crashing, seemed to crash 50% of the time, didn’t spot if it was to do with certain plug-ins etc.

Not had the crash the past few times (Have probably beeen subconciously avoiding clicking things in same order as before) I will try again soon…

Why do you have punch-out enabled if you don’t want the recording to punch out?

For example you only want to try recording the first part of a loop without overwriting the 2nd part of the loop that you are alrady happy with. (1 bar) but the whole loop lasts 2 bars and you want to get the ryhthm, feel of the loop.

I don’t understand this fully. Is it because you have recorded takes that starts beyond the start of the comp event? What do you mean with “the start of the composite track”?

Try this… Set up a loop start/end. and then arm a new track for recording, starting recording from a few seconds before the start of the loop.
The purpose of this space before the loop is so in the first take you get a chance to count in, get your voice in tune with other notes etc.
The composite track (the bit with the right-click drop down list) and the first take start from the place I placed the play cursor to start recording. It took me a good while before I realised why I couldn’t make use of any of the other takes. The other takes are all shorter in length that the main compsite track length.

    Suspected Bug…
Have a track with midi notes in a file starting at bar 2 (say).
Start recording a single note on bar 1 of track and let go of note before get to end of 1st bar.
    All works OK.
    BUT…
If I hold on note till after end of bar 1 so that the other notes in the existing midi file start playing then my original note never gets recorded.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Yes you need vst plug-ins.
Not sure about whether you can use the ones with sonar home studio sometimes vsts packaged with other programs are made so thay only work with the app you are using.
You can get lots of free vsts (search posts on this forum for links to free ones)
Laptop sound cards shoudl play back OK but for lower latency (Latency=delay between when you press keys on midi keybord and when the sound actually comes out) and recording audio, you can get cheap audio interfaces (I use edirol ua-1ex)
    Cheers,
    (And happy new year!)

    Hi,

I set up a loop on a composite track and then set record punch-in and punch-out at the same length as loop.
When reaching the end of the first take, podium switched off recording.
It works OK if you just use punch-in and not punch out but I think it would be more intuitive for punch out not to permanently turn off recording when in a loop.
In fact now I come to think about it, why does punch-out turn off the recording button in general (especially when punch-in doesn’t enable record!)

    Background and further suggestions:
Was using punch in to get around the fact that I have to cut the start of the loop with the scalpel tool in order to be able to select other takes. As a further suggestion would it be possible to do the scalpel cut at the start of the composite track by default?

Also would like takes to be named “Take 1”, “Take 2” (Or a,b,c) etc. when picking them in the drop down list on the composite track i would find that easier to remember which take was which as opposed to timestamp. (Maybe have timestamp as well)
If this corresponded with name of track that would be even better.

BTW: Enjoying trying out new comping support, thanks fritz!

    Thanks,
    Mike G
