Exactly – it’s just the labeling that’s different (you can’t even really say it’s wrong :?). Sorry if I didn’t explain it well enough.

As far as I understand, the MIDI specification only thinks of the keys as numbers, and there’s no standard that says which octave the keys center around.

Here’s a thread on KVR about this: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4268131

In some programs like Logic, you can choose which octave the piano roll is centered on (as in automatically transposing everything).

If it’s a problem for you during scoring that everything is shifted by an octave, the only way I can think of is to enter notes at the right position, and set each track to transpose by an octave (in the track properties dialog).

    Hi and welcome!

When you create a new arrangement, you start without any tracks (besides the master) – you first need to create a track which you can put a VST instrument on. There are a few ways to do this, but the easiest one is probably this: as you’ve already pressed F2, there should indeed be a list visible now, and it should have your VSTis in it. You can just drag-and-drop one of them to the tracklist (this is explained in more detail in the getting started chapter of the Podium Guide).

It appears your keyboard is already set up correctly since you see the green triangle. It should be automatically assigned to whichever track you have selected, so you can start playing right away.

If you still can’t get it to work, here’s a short video showing how to do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RjH2lI9jdI

A word of advice – you should use ASIO drivers if you’re not doing so already. Otherwise you’ll get a relatively big delay between pressing a key and hearing the sound generated. There’s a free set of these drivers called ASIO4ALL, which works with pretty much any sound card.

    Hope this helps! 🙂

Can’t say I’ve had 20 channels simultaneously so far, but no hitches with around 12. I think Podium is going to handle it just fine, unless you set latency to 32 samples and put lots of plug-ins on each track. 😉
Keep in mind that the free version does all audio processing on one processor core, though.

However, since you say “live” (as in monitoring live shows?) – if the music or performance doesn’t depend on VST plug-ins, I think I’d prefer to use a small hardware mixer instead in this case…

Rebuilding your plug-in database doesn’t help either, I assume?

Are any other commands missing from the menu, perhaps? Here’s what the usual menu should look like: http://www.zynewave.com/wiki/doku.php?id=guide:project_start_page#devices_panel

Can you give an estimate of how many plug-ins you have in your projects? I don’t believe there’s an upper limit, but just in case…

I honestly can’t think of any possible cause, so you might have to be patient until Frits can check the code. 🙁

That is very, very strange… :-k

Can you try to create a new project and see if it’s still missing there? If it is, you could try the “Restore default setup” option in the Setup menu (better create a backup of Podium.ini first – you can find it in the folder that opens when you select “Explore Setup Folder” from the Setup menu.

While I share neither the animosity towards Windows nor Mac OS , I just want to add that Podium supports 32-channel RF64 files fine, too.

However, since you’re on Mac OS anyway, have you thought about using CAF instead, with one of the advantages being able to recover the file more easily than WAV/AIFF, should your recording program ever crash?

Sorry, this won’t be of much help… Just want to add that I often use SPAN 2.2 and am currently trying the demo for Elephant 3(.7.2) without problems so far – offline bouncing, oversampling and all.

In Elephant 3 you can select to never use oversampling, always use it, or only during offline bouncing. Maybe Elephant 2 has a similar option you could try to disable it? Still, even if it’s related to oversampling, it wouldn’t explain why SPAN crashes for you… :-k

Ouch – I’m sorry you’re having a nasty problem like this. I know of no similar reports so far…

The only setting that could possibly change bit-depth of recorded audio is found in the Engine tab in the Preferences dialog, though I think there must be something else broken in this case.

So, does this happen every time you record? Can you give any more information on the broken WAV file, or maybe even upload it somewhere?

Oops, I must’ve missed your second post on January 15th!

You’re right in that the input selectors becoming unavailable is strange… I don’t think it’s intentional, but we’ll have to wait for Frits to clear things up.

    Hi and welcome! 🙂

I just gave the plug-in a try and couldn’t get it to crash so far…

Could you tell us at which point it crashes (e.g., during plug-in scanning, inserting Mr. Alias on a track, loading a project that has Mr. Alias in it)? Also, some system information would be helpful.

Well, you have to realize your computer is a tad slow… 😉 Still, it should be no problem as users have reported running Podium perfectly fine on netbooks.

Like ronin said, it’d sure help if you could say when exactly the stalling occurs!

I’ll spare you the long explanation this time and just tell you the resolution to this problem (hopefully!) 😉

When you open the project, you should see all of those non-existant WAV files are still being linked to by the project, but they appear with a red icon because they couldn’t be found. Podium doesn’t automatically remove missing files from a project because what would happen if you just moved them somewhere else or renamed them? You’d lose all information on where segments from an audio file are used in your arrangements, all fade curves and gain adjustments. Or in the case of bounce files, Podium would lose knowledge of which file belongs to which bounce track.

In your case, since the files are lost (and no longer needed anyway, as far as I understand), you just have to cut the link between each bounce track and bounce WAV file. This is easily done by selecting all those audio files marked red and removing them from the project. Once the links are cut, you can re-render all bounce tracks and new files will be created.

Here’s a quick video showing how it works (with just one file): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEDVLqFDRdM (please watch in 720 or 1080 resolution to see what’s going on).

I really hope this helps, and I hope you can finish your remix in time! 🙂

By the way, why did you delete the old bounce files in the first place? If you just render a new bounce, the file will be overwritten anyway…?

Also, those .mini files are only used to store the waveform “picture” so to speak. That way the audio files don’t have to be analyzed again every time you open an arrangement!

    Hi and welcome!

I agree that Podium Free should suit your needs fine, especially if you plan on recording multiple sound sources at once, which is a bit wonky in Audacity as far as I know. Podium doesn’t have as many destructive effects as dedicated audio editors like Audacity, so as ronin said, you’ll soon find that you need effect plug-ins in VST format (there are lots of fantastic ones available for free all over the net). These have the benefit of being non-destructive, and you can usually automate them (i.e. record changes made to their parameters over time), which is a must for experimentation, in my humble opinion! 😉
